Now let's just hope the board and coaching staff t have a plan in mind when it comes to the development of the two . Bertrand is a potential left-back in the future for club and country while Josh is already being groomed carefully by the club as the next poster boy for the club , besides his brilliant technical abilities . Wouldn't be a surprise if he ends on a loan at Bolton , if we shore up on the midfield conveniently . Helps that Owen Coyle knows AVB rather well and Bolton need an advanced playmaker in their team if Stuart Holden gets crocked again . They play good football , strong mettle while they're at it and Coyles' a really good man manager as well - worked wonders with Strurridge and Wilshere .

Remember Josh saying at the end of the previous season that if he isn't getting enough game-time , might decide upon leaving on loan in Jan , although I can see him being very useful in different parts of midfield when needed much like Ramires , both really good at having the ball at their feet . Helps that AVB is likely to have given his stamp of approval on the deals as well ,

I also think a Jan loan (if needed) would be good for Josh, when Essien's future becomes more or less clear

Not surprised about McEachran, he's got at least 3 more years at the club before having to think about leaving.

Bertrand's new contract along with the one Van Aanholt signed a while ago creates an interesting LB situation. One of them has to become a real back-up to Cole and the other can be sold for a respectable fee.

Cant help myself by being a little cynical. So now we have two homegrown boys in the team with

a long-term deal which can help us keep up the eight “homegrown” players rule!. On the other

hand sure they can make it in the future.

A very bold move by Bertrand. No doubt, when he heard Van Aanholt had signed an extension a few months ago, he would've been questioning his own future. Him signing this deal will be interesting, hope he doesn't live to regret it. Villas-Boas must clearly be a decisive factor in this.. Hope he's given his rightful chance.

It's not actually such a bold move. He'll get a bigger wage, chance to prove himself, and if the things don't work out he'll leave for bigger money. We've also got a great young manager who encourages offensive full back.

How will he leave for bigger money, if things don't work out and his quality is lost (while waiting to surpass Cole & then get past Van Aanholt for example)?
