Cech urges swift Blues appointment Petr Cech has urged Chelsea not to linger over appointing a new manager. Blues will say goodbye to 'interim' boss Rafael Benitez after two pending friendly matches against Manchester City in the USA. Former boss Jose Mourinho is their number one target, but with him still on the payroll of Real Madrid that could take some hard negotiating. Cech said: “You give the new manager the time to prepare things. The earlier he can be here, he can start work on things and not leave it for the last moment.” http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-chelsea-fc/2013/05/20/cech-urges-swift-blues-appointment-82029-33357023/

It's a bit like having annoying guests staying at your place. While they're there you feel like strangling them. On their last day you start feeling guilty and begin to forget all the moments of despair. So you tend to overcompensate and get them a nice present to take home with them. But if they told you they decided to stay another week you're back to square one. Was that a "pleasant ride"? It might feel like it now…but reading back in the match-posts suggests otherwise.

Reality check: This is a football forum and a thread about Rafa Benitez (football manager). I have expressed a negative opinion on a football manager. I find you calling it "fixed and unfounded anger" slightly disturbing.

Not wanting Rafa as a Chelsea manager (and not liking him) is a personal opinion, not a psychological disorder.

He's got some real devotees (potential stalkers) though… From Rafa's website: I am a young local coach from NIGERIA and a chelsea fan. And i av learn alot tings from u than eny other cfc coach cos i watch all chelsea match to learn. What i learn from u is how to beleave in all your player, i love how u give all the player chance and u make my dream come true by playing DAVID luiz as a midfielder. I wich i could av the opotunity to meet u once in my career and ask u some qustion. I will been following u every where u go now to learn more from u. And i hope u win the match on sunday 4 me cos is my birthday. ----------------------------------------- Rafa Benitez is a football god. I have been a Manchester City fan for nearly 70 years and I can think of no better manager to take over from Mancini than Rafa. I really cannot fathom why we are entertaining the thought of employing Pellegrini when Rafa is available. Rafa has won so many trophies and proved himself year after year. He is the only man for me. We will win the Champions League with him in charge. I hope the Sheikh visits this website so that he can read this post! ------------------------------------------ A PUBLIC APOLOGY I am a lifelong Liverpool FC fan who feels compelled to make a comment regarding the managerial ability of Rafa. I was amongst a small, yet vocal, minority of LFC fans who felt that his dismissal by the Reds was justified. However, with the power of hindsight I can whole-heartedly state that I was very VERY wrong. Rafa's work at Chelsea this season has been remarkable. Sorry Rafa for my past, cruel, ill-informed words. I would take you back at LFC in an instant. You are undoubtedly the Premier League Manager of the Season. Good luck for the future (as manager of Real Madrid?)

What? Benitez is staying? Seriously though. I personally don't understand all the worries around here. He's not even a Chelsea manager yet and some people already know how horribly wrong it will go. And conflicts are a normal part of life. I'd be more worried if the manager didn't fight for what he believes is important. Some managers have a "huge ego" and carry it with grace. Others just update their CV.

Do you know any other manager who constantly updates his personal website (and his Twitter account) with links to articles praising his skills? Can you see Jose or SAF doing that?

Rafa on Terry: I don't listen to the crowd. Hmm…remember Rafa waving to Liverpool's fans chanting his name at Anfield in April? Selective hearing? It doesn't take much. He could have said: "I didn't hear the Villa fans chanting, but if it's true then it's appalling."

And this is why I can't stand him: Angry Chelsea are considering making a complaint after Aston Villa fans abused John Terry as he was carried off. The injured skipper is now a big doubt for Wednesday’s Europa League final in Amsterdam against Benfica. Blues boss Rafa Benitez will wait for the results of a scan before making any final decisions. But he fears the centre-half will miss his second European final in a year — after being suspended for last season’s Champions League triumph in Munich. Terry suffered a serious ankle injury in a 78th-minute challenge with Villa defender Nathan Baker. And it is understood Chelsea were disgusted with the behaviour of the Villa fans, who cheered as Terry was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and chanted “Racist, racist” at the former England captain. (note: I believe they were also chanting "Die, die") Benitez said: “I didn’t hear what the fans were singing when Terry was going off. I concentrate on my job and don’t listen to the crowd.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4924067/John-Terry-abused-by-Aston-Villa-fans-Chelsea-consider-action.html#ixzz2T9zsKEHd

Benitez wants to stay in England after being '100 per cent' success at Stamford Bridge (Daily Mail) Rafa Benitez has hailed his reign as Chelsea manager as a '100 per cent success' after leading the club back into the Champions League - and immediately targeted another top job in the Barclays Premier League. He added: 'I can say that a lot of fans are telling me I am doing a good job. You can't convince everyone but I'm sure a lot will be pleased with the job I have done. It has been a success, 100 per cent. 'I came here and did a professional job from day one.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2323289/Rafa-Benitez-wants-job-Premier-League-success-Chelsea.html

A very emotional game - saw the last 10 minutes through tears. Feel quite sad for JT, he would have loved being there and celebrating with Frank. He's been rather unfortunate lately. So Terry is my MOM. Partly because I knew it would go to Frank and partly because I honestly think he made a difference. And the way Villa fans abused him was disgusting. The stats still stand: we still haven't lost a match in which both JT and Frank started. (Take note Rafa). And big thanks to BluesMaster for his tweets during matches. It's a joy to follow.

Perhaps it's just you? I have no problem understanding what he said. "It will be difficult for me, and I think all managers, to go to Old Trafford and play against Manchester United, without this mythical figure waiting for us." "We are good friends, and my good friends know which club I would like to manage when I finish my work at Real Madrid," Mourinho added. He was also asked if he would tune in when Ferguson takes charge of his last match at Old Trafford on Sunday, and said: "No, certainly not - no, I don't want to cry!"

To sub or not to sub? Rafa and the Big Bench Debate By Dan Levene, May 10th, 2013 The conversation was heated – at least on one side. The journalist, somewhat stereotypically propping up the bar, wanted to know what Rafael Benitez was thinking of when he used (or rather failed to use) his substitutions on Wednesday night... http://www.footballscores.com/superblog/to-sub-or-not-to-sub-rafa-and-the-big-bench-debate/ A good read.

That is - IMHO - a contradiction. You are aware of our position in the EPL when Benitez took over, right? The season started quite well. Yes, the fans were booing the manager and 2 players (Torres and Benayoun) - never the team. Benitez is neither the first nor the last manager being booed. And quite frankly: what did he expect? He must have known this when he took the job. Well, we changed a manager last year and won the CL :-) Why not? There is a strange tendency for those who support Benitez to avoid statistics. Try this one: http://www.weaintgotnohistory.com/2013/5/9/4314856/chelseas-results-against-the-premier-leagues-best-only-serve-to We don't know what would have happened if RMD stayed with us and I guess we were all upset. I can't give Benitez any credit and I don't understand those who can - but I respect your opinion and let's just say we disagree. For me a manager whose managerial skills never go beyond "winger for a winger" or "defender for a defender" when he makes subs is as useful as a donkey.

It was a joke, I'm sorry if you didn't think it was funny. In my defense: I put a smiley there as a clue. And I thought the post I reacted to was meant as a joke as well, because I gave my view on the "thin squad excuse" on the same page.

I can see one can easily misunderstand what I meant :-) I didn't mean one should take Chelsea finishing top 4 for granted - I meant people are giving Benitez credit for something that hasn't happened yet. I used to take us finishing top 4 for granted as well - those were the times… We are just too "up and down" under Benitez, his decisions/subs don't make sense to me and we lost to weaker teams too often.
