Torres seems quite happy to sit on the bench, play on the wing (put in a great shift yesterday) and play back-up to Costa. For all his faults, Mourinho seems to respect his willingness to work hard. Lukaku just isn't a Mourinho player. Chelsea is a competitive environment. Ashley Cole was left out because he wasn't good enough and Ashley Cole is twenty times the player Lukaku is. Costa is another guy who seems to have that fight Mourinho likes. We had the greatest night of our existence not because we had the more talented players, but because we had that fight, that steel that Mourinho instilled in the club. That's what we'll build our future success on. Lukaku will never have that in him. How important is that money to a guy worth about £40-50 million? I'm never going to be his biggest fan but he's got a better attitude than Torres apparently.

Adebayor had a better strike rate than Lukaku last season, in a team managed by Tim Sherwood and AVB. Adebayor is a better footballer than Lukaku. He's technically better, he's better with his back to goal and he's a better finisher. He's a bit of a twat but I don't see how Lukaku could be considered better than him.

This should be the first and last post in this thread. How many strikers have scored 15 goals in the league? Mourinho wants more from strikers. Drogba scored more than Lukaku's 15 PL goals last season on only TWO occasions (2007, 2010) but he brought so much more to the team than just goals. He made the team better, he made Robben, Duff, Malouda, Lamps, Ballack, Anelka etc. better players and he made the team more structured. And you're spot on about Costa fitting that criteria. In the last friendly Costa impressed me not with his goal, but with what he did in the first minute. He sprinted to close down a defender and told the players behind him to follow him. Lukaku doesn't have that in him.
