Gennaro Gattuso's agent has denied suggesting that the Italy international could follow coach Carlo Ancelotti to Chelsea. Earlier in the day, Andrea D'Amico was quoted as saying the 31-year-old midfielder was unhappy at AC Milan following Ancelotti's departure to Stamford Bridge. D'Amico even suggested that his client could be interested in a move to the Premier League himself. However, he has now back-tracked after claiming Gattuso will be staying with the Rossoneri. He said: "I have never said that Gattuso will leave. There could be offers for him by clubs because who wouldn't want a player like Gattuso? "Rino was saddened to see Ancelotti leave because he has a special relationship with him. His mission is at Milan and he wants to stay."

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has suggested that they would be willing to accept a ‘crazy’ offer for Franck Ribery. The 26-year-old France star has been persistently linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United in recent months, but Bayern have repeatedly insisted that he is not for sale. However, although Madrid president Florentino Perez recently said he would no longer pursue the player as Bayern did not want to sell, Hoeness has now hinted that a move may be possible. “We have said that we will only negotiate under certain conditions,” he told Tz. “Namely, when another club does something crazy.” Ribery recently revealed he is not interested in a move to England because of the weather.

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has received a death threat from Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich, London's High Court heard. The revelation came during a libel case brought by Melvyn Levi against Mr Bates. Mr Levi is suing for damages over three articles written by Mr Bates in matchday programmes and in a letter sent to fans in 2006 and 2007. The court was told Mr Abramovich had threatened to shoot Mr Bates. Mr Bates was the Chelsea chairman who sold the London club to Russian billionaire Mr Abramovich. The court also heard Mr Bates also tried to sell Leeds United for £51m to a former vice chairman of Everton Football Club. The sale, proposed in early 2007, also included providing Mr Bates with four directors' box tickets and access to the chairman's suite if it went through. But Chris Greg, once vice chairman at the Merseyside club, would only offer £40m on behalf of a consortium interested in buying Leeds and the deal never went through.

Manchester City will seek £10m compensation for Daniel Sturridge if, as expected, the teenager defects to Chelsea when his contract at Eastlands expires at the end of the month. City have resigned themselves to losing the talented 19-year-old striker while another of their young English stars, Joe Hart, is also making plans to join the potential exodus, having verbally agreed a year-long loan to Birmingham City.Hart has opened talks with Birmingham after concluding that his only chance of breaking into England's World Cup squad is to secure regular Premier League football. The 22-year-old, who made his England debut in a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago last June, lost his place at City when Shay Given was signed from Newcastle United in January but would take over from Maik Taylor as Birmingham's first-choice goalkeeper, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer. Sturridge's situation is based more on finance – he turned down the offer of a new £45,000-a-week deal to open negotiations with Chelsea about joining them as a free agent. He would become the best-paid teenager in English football, with a weekly salary around £75,000. However, City are entitled to claim a "development fee" through an FA tribunal because Sturridge is below the age of 24 and the club are determined to get a substantial sum for a player they took from Coventry City's youth academy as a 13-year-old.

According to a report in Het Laatste Nieuws, Belgian giants Anderlecht are considering making of move for Chelsea's highly rated Israeli striker Ben Sahar. A report earlier this month suggested that the 19-year-old was on the verge of joining Barcelona outfit Espanyol for an estimated fee of €1 million, however, the Belgian newspaper claims that Anderlecht are keen to hijack Espanyol's Sahar deal. The young forward joined Chelsea at the age of sixteen, but has failed to break into the first team so far and has been farmed out on loan to clubs such as Portsmouth, Queens Park Rangers and De Graafschap in the past years. Chelsea have now reportedly made the decision to cash in on the youngster this summer and several teams are eager to add the promising attacker to their squad. Aside from Anderlecht and Espanyol, clubs such as Vitesse, Borussia Dortmund and Real Murcia are also keeping tabs on Sahar.

ENGLAND right-back Glen Johnson is heading back to Chelsea in a stunning £16.5million deal. #bodycopy a { font-size: 12px; } The Portsmouth defender has opted to go back to Stamford Bridge despite strong interest from Liverpool. Spurs, managed by Johnson’s former West Ham and Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, were also in the race. But Johnson, 24, is set to become the first Chelsea signing of the Carlo Ancelotti era. His decision to stay in the south will be a bitter disappointment for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. Johnson moved to Fratton Park from Chelsea for £4.5m but has since established himself as England’s first-choice right-back. He played in Almaty against Kazakhstan last night and is due to face Andorra at Wembley on Wednesday. His deal to rejoin FA Cup winners Chelsea will be valued at £16.5m but less than that will change hands as Pompey still owe money on the original deal. Aston Villa’s Ashley Young is also one of Ancelotti’s top targets, Young enjoyed another great season for Villa last term, being named in the PFA team for a second successive year and also scooping the Young Player of the Year award. Chelsea have held a long-term interest in Young and they see him as a key addition to their squad as they look to rebuild their ageing side. Former boss Guus Hiddink is thought to have recommended a move for Young as the club look to bring in more English talent. Young has established himself as one of the most exciting players in the Premier League since bursting on to the scene at Watford and he would fit into Chelsea’s plans to introduce a brand of more attractive attacking football. Villa chief Martin O’Neill is a big fan of Young and would be loathe to lose the England international after having already seen Gareth Barry leave for Manchester City this summer.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has revealed that the club will not reach their target of breaking even by 2010, according to The Mirror. The Premier League side had set next year to balance the books at Stamford Bridge, but they have now admitted that this goal was too ambitious. Roman Abramovich said, when he bought the club in 2003, that they should be self sufficient by 2010, but this will not be happening any time soon. However, a Blues spokesman said that they have high hopes of coming close to achieving it. Speaking to The Mirror, the spokesman said, "It was always an ambitious target and the likelihood of hitting it is not great. But the aim is to get close to it." This statement may mean that the club will have to sell their players in order to raise revenue, with Ricardo Carvalho currently being trailed by Italian giants Inter. Other players who could be heading for the Chelsea exit door are Deco, Juliano Belletti, Branislav Ivanovic and Salomon Kalou. The sale of these players would greatly diminish the club's huge wage bill, as well as bringing in some money in transfer fees. New Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has been promised a big transfer budget, with the former AC Milan coach rumoured to be targeting the two Brazilian stars, Kaka and Alexandre Pato.

Clarence Seedorf remains ‘100 percent’ a Milan player despite rumours he could be set to join Chelsea. Reports claim Carlo Ancelotti is keen to take the 33-year-old former Holland international to Stamford Bridge, while Fenerbahce have also been linked with a move. However, agent Giovanni Branchini insists there have not been any offers. “Seedorf is a Milan player – 100 percent – and he will remain so until proven otherwise,” he told Calcio Mercato. “There are no current offers. Whether something will arrive in the next few days, I don’t know. “We’ll see.”

Liverpool remain confident beating Chelsea for Portsmouth fullback Glen Johnson. The News of the World says Kop boss Rafa Benitez will lodge a £10 million bid when the Portsmouth full-back returns from international duty with England. Benitez is keen to land Johnson, 25, after suffering a major setback when Villa's Gareth Barry chose Manchester City. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is also interested but Benitez hopes Johnson's previous unhappy spell at Stamford Bridge will influence his decision. Benitez can guarantee Johnson he will be a first-choice next season.
