  1. Who are the world class midfielders? Yaya Toure? I'd say Pogba is closest thing to Yaya in world football and is VERY close to world class. How much would you pay for a 22/23 yr old Yaya Toure?
  2. I think for some the tag world class comes only with longevity, when I watch Pogba I judge him on what I see now. He is without a doubt burgeoning on world class and we would be dumb not to take advantage of the crazy money we acquired for Luiz and not take it to reinvest on a player who looks like the second coming of the most influential player in the Prem.
  3. everyone has their opinions. I believe Pogba is worth 50M only because we got that amount for Luiz. Had we not sold Luiz for that I wouldn't go anywhere near 50M. He is burgeoning world class, no doubt about it.
  4. What you people continually FAIL to understand is the marketplace is not static! Suarez will cost more than Bale's 86m in today's market! When you buy a player like Pogba for 50m you're buying him for that because he's capable of giving you TWO contracts! Cavani will give you one contract and will demand RIDICULOUS WAGES!! Eden Hazard had a buyout and is on RIDICULOUS WAGES!!
  5. Its a risk I'm willing to take. I really think this kid is going to be a big player for years to come. I don't think the approach should ever be 'we made a mistake once(which wasn't a footballing decision the owner wanted a showpiece) we can't do it again' every situation is different. Pogba could give us 10yrs of ridiculously world class service and in that time you'd likely consider it a bargain. He hasn't regressed, only progressed. He's 21 with his best years ahead of him and he's already challenging as one of the best box to box midfielders in the world. City won a title in the toughest competition, whether its convincing or not they achieved their objectives. Bayern doesn't matter how you want to mince it, they ran away with their league and lost to the eventual winners of the champs league. Real spent more and achieved the only prize they were truly after which means they got what they wanted.
  6. I think you need to go back into the thread and look at what he's been saying... On the Pogba thing it is rare you will find a box to box player who is showing the type of skill he is at such a young age. He approaching world class status... the marketplace is changing RAPIDLY. Bale who had one decent season on a 5th place team was sold for a record fee at 23. David Luiz at 27 was sold for 50M... third choice CB at best. Its not that I think Pogba is worth it, its mainly because we've had a huge windfall with this Luiz thing that is making me think we can swap out Luiz for Pogba and still be in a fine financial position. If you don't think he's good enough that's fine, I'm of the thinking that after the Luiz sale Chelsea can afford to gamble on a player who is considered to be the same sort of player as Yaya. If it proves to be wrong then we lose the kitty that was a gross overpayment anyways.... Its a rare opportunity. Potentially 10yrs of a world class player vs 4-5yrs, crazy wages of a player who likely isn't even up for sale.
  7. No if you know Jose, he's about winning! He will play whoever gives him the best chance to win. Real won Europe's biggest prize I'm pretty sure they didn't give a fuck about La Liga.
  8. If they're good enough they will play.
  9. Bottom line is if they're good enough they will play. There will be nothing keeping them from breaking in IF they are good enough to play for a top club... If they end up being as good as Pogba then its a good problem to have, it means we have the ability to move someone for an incredible transfer kitty and keep the best one.
  10. hedge your bet means protecting yourself against making a poor choice. Pogba vs Chalobah or Tiago....
  11. i don't think Chelsea have come anywhere NEAR the saturation point! We don't even have a striker or a proper functioning midfield. The teams that do well do so by spending, City won the league, Real won Europe, Bayern ran away with Germany. The common thread is money invested... The youth academy hasn't given us any fruit as yet. Until we can see players break into the squad and play regularly it can't be considered working. Its a very tough squad to break into because in my head Chelsea is about winning, not developing players. We use the youth as a means to develop and sell on but integrating them into the first team hasn't been a practice of this Chelsea at all... I agree it has to change but that will have to be a gradual change. I player like Paul Pogba is a threat to many of our young players because he looks every bit like a world beater and that would mean less opportunities for them. Thats why everyone who values our youth set up seem so threatened by acquiring a player of that magnitude. Me, I just want the best players at the squad, I'm attached to the badge, names come and go all the time.
  12. I can only go on what I've seen and for me Pogba is about to be one of the best midfielders in the world. I can't say that about Shaw or Chalobah that's why I'm willing to hedge my bet on him. You seem to be hell bent on English talent being the backbone of the club regardless of whether or not that talent is even close to good enough for a top 5 club in the World. Top 5 clubs need world class talent, if you can say with a straight face that Chalobah is close to being as good as Pogba I would like to know where you see the evidence?
  13. Chalobah who is currently struggling to be a consistent player in the championship is the guy we should hedge our bets on guys. He will come back to Chelsea and save us money(which clearly isn't even required) and perform better than he did at Middlesborough because he's English and that good. Why spend 50m on Pogba who is considered the next Yaya when we don't have to spend a penny on Chalobah and Tiago??? LOL
  14. funny Shaw is a lock at 30m but Pogba who is already burgeoning world class at 21 is an insane gamble... Dude your English bias is duly noted.
  15. The money was never a problem its roster spots. People need to leave before we go out and grab someone else.
  16. Because whining about something when you are apart of the problem is stupid. FFP was implemented to stop teams like Chelsea, City, PSG from driving up market prices... Chelsea agreed to FFP because it basically safeguards them against another team doing exactly what they've done. Torres was not out of desperation, the owner simply liked him and wanted him... there was nothing desperate about it, luxury buy at its finest. I really hate when people paint each player from another league with the same brush. I mean its the stupidest argument that can be made... "Player X didn't do well in the Prem so there's no guarantee Player Y will either" Let me tell you something Muzchap, there is no guarantee on ANYTHING, Messi could come here and fail. It has nothing to do with the league just the make up of the player, some adjust and others don't. What exactly does the club stand for again? I mean according to you of course? If you can come up with one name that wouldn't be a gamble I would love to hear it. No transfer comes without inherit risk... You basically hedge your bets against risk vs reward and quite honestly, Pogba is the type of player I'd like to see the club gamble on. If he reaches his potential we have a Yaya Toure type figure at the club for maybe 10+ seasons. I don't want Shaw at £30m, no one knows what Pogba is valued at, I've seen £50m which I wouldn't hesitate to pay. Costa at 32m is not bad if he works out to be the player we need. Chelsea spent 31m on Willian, 20m on Schurrle, 8m on Van Ginkel, 5.5m on Atsu... That was considered a slow summer for Chelsea and we spent something like 63M.... 80M is not a huge amount of money for this club.
  17. He did walk into a great situation but he helped build it as well. The thing that people forget to acknowledge is Pep changed the philosophy and made Barcelona a Spanish team again. Previously they relied on a lot of Dutch and Brazilian talent to achieve success, Pep brought through a lot of Spanish talent and while he won at Barca he also help the national team win as well. He will go down as a Spanish legend for this.
  18. wouldn't be as important with Terry still around and Cahill emerging into a leader. The problem is Chelsea stopped buying players in 2008 when it was time to see the next generation of players in their early 20's start to come through. The result is what we see now where we have a large gap between our veterans and our newcomers. If Frank stays I'm hoping its as a player coach, we don't really require him on the pitch anymore, his leadership is best served in the room.
  19. if we're talking €65m which is £52m I would consider it only because we basically swapped David Luiz for the best young box to box midfielder in the world. That would be a major windfall for Chelsea no matter the dollar spent. And for those whining about prices spinning out of control, lets not forget our very own club are part responsible for that occurring.
  20. Can't see them paying that sort of price on a position they have surplus in. Someone is looking to up Paul's price. They bought illarrmendi last summer for a ridiculous fee.
  21. There is no way in hell Real Madrid would pay that for Pogba. That is just insane! Sounds like someone trying to drive up the market value if you ask me.
  22. A little different situation but I get where you're headed.
  23. If this is true and I have strong suspicions of the contrary, I would let him go back to Atleti... I only want players who WANT to be here.
