  1. https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/atletico-madrid-are-in-active-negotiations-with-psg-to-sign-edinson-cavani-this-month/ RMC claimed we have interest in Cavani but only in the summer when he becomes a free agent, which kinda makes sense and no sense.
  2. Perhaps but if we had backed Conte a little more that season, things might have turned out differently and he may well have stayed on.
  3. By rediscovering his form, I meant getting past his injuries. He has had a lot of muscle related injuries since last season. He will not survive the pace and intensity of the Premier League if that remains a problem. Some of the links, I’m sure are just paper talk like him going to United and Juventus, and even us I’d wager. He may still have enough to offer but for how long more? He has injury problems and turns 33 next month. Unless you know a fountain of youth somewhere, signing Cavani would just be a short term signing and he won’t be performing consistently. The club has their strict policy on players over 30 years old, remember? I’m not being dismissive of Ligue 1 but was merely providing context. Ligue 1 is decent but if you don’t think the standard of Serie A or Bundesliga is better than it, then I don’t know what to say.
  4. Wonder how things would have panned out though had we signed him instead of Morata in 2017.
  5. It was also a Championship side who fielded their B team. Can only play what's in front of you and CHO did well in that regard on Sunday I supposed but it's so annoying to see people on Twitter going OTT gaga with his performance!
  6. In terms of strikers, think only Falcao, Costa (first time), Villa and Griezmann have done well under him. Don't think he's great at coaching attack, TBH. He's tried to change Atletico's style this season and while they are still hard to beat, the results have been mixed and no impact has been made. They've scored only 22 goals in 19 league games this season.
  7. Lukaku has 14 goals in 18 Serie A games this season.
  8. Is 'got dropped' even the right phrase to use? Sorry for being pedantic. In the 5 games since Pulisic's 12 consecutive starts, he was on the bench for Spurs and Southampton because Lampard went with the back 3 (came on in the latter after we switched back to a back 4), started at Brighton and was out against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest due to injury.
  9. He's probably more suited to managing the B-tier clubs - the Valencias, Sevillas, Evertons, Atalantas of this world - than the A-tier/elite clubs.
  10. Again, I have never said I'm against signing players... But Eto'o was around the same age when he joined us as Cavani is right now. Cavani may be playing for a top team in PSG but he is playing in a relatively weak league, where PSG face next to no competition domestically. If Eto'o is considered past it back then, then a similar argument could be made of Cavani because his injury list since the start of 2018/19 season has not been great - https://www.transfermarkt.com/edinson-cavani/verletzungen/spieler/48280 (didn't realize it was that bad). Has suffered quite a few muscle injuries and if you think he can rediscover his best form at 33 in the Premier League, then please let us know where you get your optimism from. I wouldn't read too much into Atletico's interest on Cavani, because they are just desperate for a striker. Costa has been a flop since returning, Morata is unreliable despite scoring a few lately and Felix is struggling to make his mark.
  11. A 27-year-old Cavani? 100%. A soon to be 33-year-old Cavani? Doubtful. Remember Eto’o? His game time was rotated with Torres/Ba under Mourinho in 2013/14. Was mostly used in the home games, but less so in away games (IIRC).
  12. I don’t know why you said what you said in the 2nd paragraph there because I never said anything about being against bringing in quality players. All I said was, if we sign Cavani, I don’t think he’ll be first choice. It’s a different case altogether if we sign someone younger and someone like Werner.
  13. A mix of the first 2? Although I’m leaning towards 1. Lampard already said he wants competition in the squad and if it’s Dembele, then I believe he’ll rotate.
  14. I guess time will tell but part of the reason Lampard, Morris and co. were brought in was to integrate the young players into the first team etc. Lampard will obviously look for quality reinforcements but he also said he will back the young players and be patient with them, otherwise we’ll end up with another De Bruyne/Salah situation. Also, if we’re just gonna toss the young players aside once we’re able to buy again, then why even bother hiring Lampard in the first place? Better off just hiring some other manager to begin with.
  15. The Liverpool v Everton and Arsenal v Leeds games are classic examples of a game of two halves and what will happen if you don't take your chances!
  16. That's easy to say. But Lampard certainly isn't going to just toss Abraham aside. At most, he would rotate between them both.
  17. Backup, rotation, second choice...whatever you want to call it. But he certainly isn't going to start on a weekly basis if he comes here.
  18. This month, I have no idea. Haven't watched some of the players we've been linked with enough to say for certain. And I don't think we'll risk going with just Abraham and Batshuayi for the rest of the season or at least, I hope not. Otherwise, we'll be seeing Pulisic up front as the False 9! The dream striker signing in the summer would obviously be Werner.
  19. Got Hull away in the FA Cup 4th round...
  20. Just speaking hypothetically. Ideally, not.
  21. If he's happy to be a backup, then I think we can do a lot worse. Otherwise, it's tough to find someone with the desire to play week in week out in their 20s to be a backup.
