If you play him as 2nd choice, michy won't be happy. We are pretty much left with Tammy and an old striker. If Tammy is injured for just one month, we are pretty much screwed.

You just answered what we need from a dm. A player who can protect our backline. If Pep want his dm to have little ability to break up player he won't sign Rodri to replace Fernandinho. Gundogan is perfectly fine. The problem with gundo is that physically he is not strong enough to play as holder. Kovacic cannot play as holder. Sarri tried to teach him last season but it will take years, let's just say he can't play sole dm. Other than jorgi only Kante can play DM but what is the point of playing one of the most dynamic midfielder in the world at his prime as dm.

That is on Lamp. Do we need better backup for Tammy, for sure. But not etoo type signing.

My point is michy is our 2nd choice striker that is obvious. But if you are looking for veteran striker to play 3rd striker Giroud is more than adequate, there isn't many targetman that is better at linkup play and header than giroud.

I honestly have no clue what happen with Giroud. But Giroud as backup st is perfectly fine certainly for this season. But like you said he is behind michy yet Giroud started against West Ham.

If you want a short term striker, Giroud is perfectly fine.

Both are terrible idea,that is why you see very little movement in January window from most teams.

DM is imo priority no 1 priority, preferably a taller. Yes we have tons of midfielder but there is only one who is a sitting mid and he provide little defensive cover.

Lampard was a goal getter, essien does not really score. Ballack score a bit especially when he is asked to play higher. RLC won't really back this season but that doesn't justify the need to buy another scoring midfield unless you want to say good bye Mount. That is whole another story

You pretty much has answered why we don't need goals from midfield. We have kante and RLC. Plus we have Mount as am. You can't have have everyone scoring goals.

For me it doesn't matter how you build your team. It is all about to achieve balance someway. In our case, we are one very good dm from being competitive + a very good lb from being very2 good. But to get from very2 good to title winner, we need our young guns to take the next level. We can only just wait and see.

Pool problem is finding good player who is willing to play backup. That is very difficult. Only City can spend 50/60 m on backup player.
