As far as I remember, the whole of Burnley's team hardly posed much of a threat. And the way you're saying things would suggest that Frank and Essien held off tide after tide of Burnley attacks They offered so little going going forward; that Essien, the alleged holding midfielder, pushed forward alongside Lampard and Ballack. No single player had a lot of defending to do, because Burnley wanted to keep it tight in the first half and rarely ventured forward, before playing for time and damage limitation in the second half, allowing Cole to come forward more often than not.

Ashley Cole was absolutely superb defensively and going forward was a huge attacking outlet for us, especially in the second half. His goal capped off a tremendous display. I thought Essien was outstanding but Ashley Cole, for me, was our best performer on Saturday.
