  1. Won 1-0 there in 2007 en route to lifting the League Cup, but yes, never in the league. What a ridiculous post, besides their last two games they've been one of the form sides in the league and have kept a good number of clean sheets this season. This is going to be a very hard game. And Krul is an outstanding shot-stopper.
  2. I reckon in the final home game of the season we'll wear the Turkish Airlines sponsor on the current home kit, rather than Samsung. The thing that is good for Samsung is, luckily for them, we'll have won the title by late February!
  3. Nice work Sammy! As for the red trim and the fact it "shouldn't be on Chelsea kits", we all know that's bollocks, but let's not start that history lesson again. It's not as if we have a red GK kit at the minute... and people do realise there is a fair bit of red on our badge, right??
  4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17673812 30% possession, 4 shots, only two on target. Don't be bitter/hypocritical, Sunderland were fantastic. If any club has no right to complain about teams defending well against us, it's Chelsea. Anyone who thinks Sunderland didn't defend well just has to look at our average touch map:
  5. Chelsea were forced to surrender two points in their charge to the Premier League title by Sunderland's stubborn resistance. The Black Cats, recently hammered 8-0 by Chelsea's nearest challengers Southampton, were resolute defensively and also caused José Mourinho's men a number of scares as the Blues were made to accept a stalemate. It is the first time this term that Chelsea have failed to find the back of the net, and their ability to do so in their next game will be diminished as Diego Costa's fifth yellow card of the season means he misses Wednesday's derby with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho accused Sunderland's defence of purposely trying to wind up the nationalised Spaniard, who was eventually yellow carded for a flailing arm in an aerial clash with Wes Brown, but the Portuguese later admitted that the former Atletico Madrid man may well have been rested for Wednesday's match given his iffy fitness record since his mega-money switch to the West London outfit in July. Two dropped points means that either of Southampton and Manchester City can take advantage of this unexpected slip-up from the Blues when the two sides meet on Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's, but the smallest that Chelsea's advantage can be reduced to at this stage is four points if Southampton win or five points if City can overcome their opponent, with a share of the spoils meaning their lead would remain at six points - all still considerable advantages considering how early in the season it still is. The Blues and their fearsome attack which had seen them net 48 times in their 19 previous games this term were left to look completely impotent by Sunderland's organised defence, with one excellent save from Branislav Ivanovic's angled drive by Costel Pantillimon and a Willian strike that the former Manchester City goalkeeper diverted onto the post representing the sum of Chelsea's attacking endeavours. But Sunderland, growing in confidence as the game wore on, hit the woodwork themselves when centre-back Vergini, on loan from Argentine club Estudiantes, unexpectedly popped up in the area to divert a deflected cross goalwards. If anything, the Argentine - - hit his effort too well, with a scuffed effort more likely to beat Thibaut Courtois from close range.Sunderland rarely threatened, with one Connor Wickham shot from distance almost catching Courtois off guard arguably their next-best opportunity, but the later introduction of Josy Altidore - whose only previous league goal for the Black Cats came in this fixture last season - did cause one or two moments of panic in the Chelsea penalty area, with Courtois called into action when he had to smother at the feet of the big American. Didier Drogba and Loic Remy were both introduced late on as Mourinho hauled off the ineffective Costa, who, having been booked for his challenge on Brown and for one previous tussle with John O'Shea, left to a chorus of pantomime jeers. That change seemed to give Chelsea more of an attacking threat, but despite Drogba's excellent turn and shot across the face of goal, the Blues were still unable to muster any maintained threat on the Sunderland goal. Chelsea will have to up their performance when they host Tottenham on Wednesday. With Costa suspended, at least one change will be enacted by Mourinho, who must now shuffle his pack after a jaded showing here. This is the third time Chelsea have dropped points in the league this season - and each time those results have come after midweek Champions League fixtures. Mourinho knows he will have to adopt a strict policy of rotation as the games continue to come thick and fast. Click here to view the article
  6. If Sunderland play as well as they did yesterday against the Manchester sides you'll definitely take points from them. I'll go as far as to say that the game yesterday was the toughest we've played all season. You're the first team to make us look impotent in attack, fair play.
  7. Samsung is well behind the likes of Sony, Panasonic, Microsoft, Apple and many others in the technology industry, does that mean our present sponsor is Spurs-worthy as well? Turkish Airlines has a cosmopolitan sound to it and matches the Chelsea's brand's ambitions of spreading the message of this Football Club around the world. It is an apt metaphor and a good choice. Besides, I wouldn't give a shit if it was Aldi sponsoring us if they were paying the money that TA are.
  8. I hate the phrase "parking the bus". Defending is a fucking art. The perfect defence is almost unobtainable. You will almost always concede many chances in a match, but to be able to hold such defensive rigidity against the side that is arguably the best team in world football at the minute, certainly top three with Bayern and Real, deserves real commendation. Sunderland defended beautifully yesterday and they deserved a point. It doesn't matter how shit they were against Southampton; they were miserly against us and warranted a return from the game in terms of points. I salute their showing.
  9. I have to admit, I'm happy with a point. I said several times before this game that this is exactly the sort of fixture we fuck up in, so to take something isn't bad at all. Sunderland played fantastically well and defensively they were the best unit we've come up against all season. Credit to them and Poyet for that. They deserved at least a point, perhaps even all three. Based on that, I'm not too displeased. I though we showed a severe drop in intensity and invention, however. José needs to consider rotating his squad around more often because Azpilicueta and Hazard in particularly looked hopeless and/or exhausted yesterday. Matic wasn't his imperious self. I felt incredibly sorry for Cesc and Willian, the two of them were full of energy and looking to try and pick holes in that Sunderland defence, but it was borderline impossible. We have a squad for two reasons: 1; to replace injured/tired players, and 2; to prevent complacency striking. We have far too many players who look "comfortable" in their selection right now. I think we'll see a couple of changes on Wednesday. It's just a shame Ramires was injured because if he'd have been fit, you'd arguably have sacrificed Cesc and just let him run and run and run. We need direct play yesterday and with Hazard looking disinterested at times, we need that little bit of grit and panache that Rambo can offer. I felt we looked more threatening when Costa went off, in truth, I felt he looked exhausted and his movement was minimal, although, in fairness to him, any lone striker would have struggled. We looked better when Drogba came on and we were more direct. When Schurrle and Remy came on, we had more speed and direct play out wide as well. I think José needs to consider that the tika-taka won't work at places like Sunderland and Stoke, for instance. Sometimes, instead of trying to cause death by a thousand knife wounds, using a bazooka is more of an appropriate tactic.
  10. José says there is a "bad result" around the corner and he is correct. I just hope we don't take our eye off the ball.
  11. This is the type of game you can see us blowing that unbeaten record. I have a bad feeling about this one.
  12. There's more chance me becoming Queen of Sheba than this.
  13. If you all remember this time last season, Cech conceded 8 goals from 8 shots on target and we kept only four clean sheets in our first 17 matches. We then ended the season as the league's most miserly defence. Lightning has struck twice in this regard, Courtois has been seriously unlucky with all the goals he has conceded, I don't hold him culpable for any opposition strike we've conceded this season at all. But even for a confident keeper, a clean sheet buoys you, and when you start to get a little run of six or seven clean sheets over a period of ten matches, for instance, you start to feel invincible.
  14. Me and the old man were discussing Diego in Europe, he doesn't seem to play with the same verve and panache as he does in domestic matches. Is the pace too slow for him, I wonder? Personally I've always thought the more mobile Remy or the more powerful Drogba would be a better option in UCL group games.
  15. He's an integral part of the squad but we'd cope if he got injured. That's what a squad is for. Ramires would come in.
  16. Stuck a tenner in myself, fair play to Muzchap, absolute hero.

  19. As many of us said, he just needed time to gain form and fitness.
  20. He was AT the 13-0 in '71, says that won't be topped!
  21. Haha at least you do Ron! And I agree, it was a special performance tonight, up there with Galatasaray 1999, Lazio 2003 and Valencia 2007 as one of our greatest ever group stage away days!
  22. The King, no-one else compares. 161 not out
