I'm thinking 3-1...
-
Maybe was the origonal idea but last season we had two central orthodox strikers in our squad and that is how it should be. Are you telling me you would be comfortable if Torres were to get a long term injury that we would be ok with Sturridge and a RW/ST like Moses?
-
2 strikers won't be enough for the whole season. Even more so with no guarantee that Torres will score goals and Sturridge has not yet played many games in a STR position at the top level. It would be a huge risk not to buy another striker. Sturridge was always Anelka's replacement, so we still need to replace Drogba.
-
Yes but as it is official that he won't sign a contract and therefore is nailed on to leave Bilbao this summer then we are still speculating, particularly as Chelsea still need a striker IMO.
-
Agreed. Although I don't think Boro are one of the front runners for promotion. However even if they didn't go up, if he shines in the Championship then one of the promoted sides are more likely to take him on loan when they go up to the Premiership.
-
How ironic would it be if Spurs take offence to this mistake and play hardball with Real Madrid over Modric, resulting in us buying him; This considering Real Madrid fucked us over with Robinho back in the day because of a cock up on our website.
-
I still think Roman has one more big signing up his sleeve...
-
This is a good loan because Tony Mowbray is a pretty good manager, likes to play football which will suit Josh. If he impresses early doors, I wouldn't be surprised if Boro build their team around his creativity. I honestly think he is at least two years away from the Chelsea team. He's not 20 until March. Remember that Bertrand is only coming through now and has already just turned 23. A good loan this season at Boro and I can see him having a loan spell next season at either Boro again if they get promoted or one of the Championship teams that do get promoted to the Prem.
-
Apparently he was superb tonight controlling the midfield according to the Sky Sports bloke watching their game. Would be interesting to get some feedback from a Boro fan. Hopefully this is the start of a good season for him...
-
Damiao makes sense for Spurs with their links to Inter. Although that didn't stop us from buying Oscar Llorente is definately my number one choice considering whats currently out there on the market and his likely transfer fee and wages.
-
The problem has already started this summer. Until they start shifting some deadwood they can't bring new players in. Instead they are having to make buys with an eye on the future who's wages will be relatively low. It's ironic that they are now english champions yet are only so far securing IMO second rate young players. Particularly when compared to the young talent we're snatching up.

I'm sure i've read before that Adebayor is on £170k at city. If he has moved to spurs on only £80k and city pay the difference then that is approx £4.5m for one season. Not sure how long adrbayor had on his contract but if it was more than one year city are effectively paying to sell him!
-
City are going to have so many problems with their wage structure over the next couple of years. Apparently Silva is stalling on a new contract because he wants wages in line with Tevez and Aguero.

Ha ha forgive me i was at work! I'm home now...feel much more relaxed

Thats ok. I had 3-4 comments like that but when i explained my reasoning nobody came back, wasn't meant to take it all out on you!
-
Neither are very good in your opinion - however both are clearly trusted and liked by AVB. If it was his call i think he would take a deal for two players he knows well and a few million for a player who doesn't want to be there. The problem is levy but if madrid pull out, spurs have a big decision to make. On topic i don't see us buying hulk personally. Porto don't seem like budging.
-
Yes i really wanted hulk at the start of the summer but having splashed out on hazard, moses makes more sense. A fraction of hulks transfer fee and wages, 5 years younger with massive potential and resale value, and premier league experience.
-
Explain then. The top 3 are attainable, realistic targets. The modric one is less likely but it has been speculated that we're still interested and spurs are looking at meireles and sturridge, so i've explained my reasoning. If madrid pull out spurs are in a very difficult position because i don't think they can keep modric after everything that has happened. I expected more from somebody on this forum who's views i respect.
-
I agree that it is doubtful but it is something that has been speculated in the media. I think AVB would take it but levy may not. However if real madrid pulled out spurs have no other options besides keeping a player who seems prepared to refuse to play. My whole original point though was we could spend the same money that hulk or cavani would cost to solve more than one area of our squad.
-
Spurs are still struggling to agree with madrid and will not want to keep modric again when he clearly wants to leave. Avb needs a striker and a modric replacement which we would provide them with, not to mention two players who were clearly favourites of his last season. Meireles cost £12m and made significant contributions to our team last season like it or not - he is still worth in the region of £10m. Sturridge would be valued at around £15m. I would like to keep sturridge but he is in the final year of his contract remember! Both would jump at the chance to join a manager who clearly likes them considering they have had less important roles at chelsea since he left. Spurs have already been heavily linked with both so why shouldn't we test their resolve. That deal will be better than the £23.5m real madrid have apparently bid. I'm not stupid, it isn't likely but i'm going on basis of media valuations of players, etc like everyone is with hulk and cavani. My point is mainly we could bolster our squad with 3-4 players for such money! And somebody bitching about this isn't football manager, its real life? We are discussing another big money buy having already spent over £60m ffs. Chelsea don't operate in similar brackets to other clubs!
-
Hulk and Cavani will both cost between £30-40m for just one position. With that money we could realistically be looking at buying - Llorente £18m Moses £9m Azpilicueta £8m Modric £5m + meireles + sturridge £40m spent and a strong squad which would only need small tweaking over the next 2-3 years. I would rather go that route then just hulk or cavani for the same price!
-
Jovetic won't do. I can understand a third choice striker being a more versatile player who will get as many games in another position as he will up front and merely offers an alternative strike option. However for me a top club needs at least a couple of high quality pure striking options. These are generally your main goal getters who offer a greater threat and understanding in that position than someone like jovetic who can play there but isn't strongest there.
-
So you want to play a 60 game season with just one 'pure' centre forward??!!

Source or just your opinion?
