I just would not trust going into a season with a past it nando and i honestly do not believe that Lukaku and Sturridge are at the level right now to be a first choice striker if Torres doesnt turn up. Right now, there are people who are arguing that Torres is better than them two, that just says it all. Torres as he is right now, is not good enough for to be first choice striker until he shows otherwise, you can talk about runs and link up play all you want, strikers who score goals do those too. The idea that we shouldn't buy Cavani for 35M, because it will unsettle Torres whom we bought for 50M and has thus he will loose his confidence and not come good is ridiculous and a double standard, because we could have used it for Mata as a reason not to get either Hazard or KDB or Marin and maybe the return of Kakuta, and now Oscar as well. Mata likes to either play either in the whole or LW, Everybody we just bought this window including Kakuta are either wingers or likes to play in the hole. But we are not bother about Mata getting benched or losing his confidence? Why? I am not saying we should go pay another ridiculous amount for a striker. But if CAVANI is going for just 35M, which is a whole lot less than 50M, also less than what Hulk is going for and the same price as Andy Carroll. I totally agree with all you have said, we missed out on Modric, to an extent Hazard and Neymar, all for ridiculously cheap prices with the current inflated market. Then people will come up with excuses A.) Premier League unproven (Mata and Silva have destroyed that myth). The history of Brazilians in the premier league; whereas two of our 3 best players last season are Brazilians. If the rumors are true, this is a steal for us, he is a starter in the Brazilian national team, the same one that Ramires doesnt start for, and Lucas Moura who we got a 32M bid turn down for is not a regular starter. We have never been a team to rely solely on a striker to score, and if that is what you got from what i said then you got it twisted...The entire team chips in the occasional goals here and there, but that should not negate the need for a 30+ goals a season striker...Lampard cannot give his 20+ goals a season anymore, Ramires as good as he is i do not see him as a 20goals plus a season player, Drogba is gone, Mata 10+goals, we dont know how Hazard will do but with the upmost optimism 10-15goals, Raul(5-10goals) Marin maybe 5 or more, Defenders Iva, Cahill and Luiz (5-7goals), all of this and you still do not see the need for a striker that can bang in constantly?....We have always had game changers, Cech as been a big game changer for us at many occasion, but that big save is gonna mean nothing sometimes when a strikes misses big chances...

Torres is getting close to 30, he has lost is speed and killer instincts, he makes really poor decisions....Like Henrique and someone said earlier, we should really stop being in denial, you dont grow older and get faster....Like i said already in the Cavani thread, there is no excuse for someone not been able to compete for his spot with the best names in the world, if he comes good(which i highly doubt), then tell me how it is a bad idea to have 2 goal scoring machines....If he doesnt come good then we should have someone that can score, and that will enable Danny get more chances as CF...

He is good but we comparing him in a season where Frank didnt have is usual 20goals plus and Drogba didn't seem like he gave a shit about the smaller teams...I also do not believe Robbie actually sees him as a genuine competition for Torres, and also remember there is a huge price tagged attached to Nando that is not on Danny, there is also the case of he is young and inexperienced....That been said, having him as a 3rd choice CF with Lukaku going on loan would be ideal in my opinion, and if Nando continues the horror show the manager will have more confidence to use him as second choice when there is a good first choice striker that can score....So getting a proven goal scoring threat should be on the shopping list; Cavani or Falcao are on the top of my wishlist...

Football is a sport and everybody should always be ready to compete for their places and be ready to challenge the best in the world for their spot on the field, no exceptions....I am not expecting everyone to be like Drogba but if he wants to be first choice striker he should be ready to compete with the best for his spot, he came to a big club to come win trophies and fighting for your spot with big names is one of them...The whole Torres and Shevy thing didnt work out because there was a winner in those battles (Drogba), why should Nando be scared of battles....And big name striker have work well competing for their places else where Real (Benzema and Higuain), Man City(theirs is ridiculous though), a full season a just Torres is a huge risk that i would not want the club to take in my opinion, if he comes good it will be fantastic for us and if he doesnt we need someone that can win us games...

What is wrong in some competition if he does come good...Drogba fought for his place constantly against the some of the best strikers of our time (Shevchenko, Kezman, Crespo, Torres) and eat them up, why does Torres have to be any different?...Drogba was bought for a lot of money too, if he comes good then it would be interesting watching him and someone like Cavani fighting for starting spot and banging in goals everywhere...If he continues like he has done the past 18months then we no we are not gonna be left hanging, remember there is no more Didier Drogba to save us...
