Which is nothing more than your own opinion. Not based on facts and concrete evidence. moreover it's a difficult comparison to make as they play different positions and also, winning the poty award ahead of players like Moutinho, James Rodriguez (both players only moved this season, they were competing with Matic for the award last season) Jackson martinez, mangala,Alex sandro, fernando,Deffour,Gaitan and garay is no mean feat.

We have also had huge slice of luck this season in comparison to last season and our current league standing is quite flattering. games against villa, westbrom, Liverpool (The two Eto'o incidents) and Man city where we were thoroughly outplayed and had Joe hart to thank for the last minute brainfart.
-
Makelele, Essien and lampard midfield tandem was more impressive

I haven't read so much drivel in a while. so our league performance last season was due to the notion that we built the team around mata (very debatable) and not because of multitude of reasons like Benitez poor tactical showings e.g inability to make the right adjustments to see out games leading to conceding silly late goals, making daft and uninspiring substitutions like bringing on a right back for another right back when the team was trailing, permanently relegating our captain and organiser in defence to the bench which left Luiz and cahill out to dry and so on. Having a very small and unbalanced squad to deal with the unprecedented number of fixtures last season. we played more competitive games than any other team in Europe last season and it's a mighty surprise that we were able to achieve what we achieved given the circumstances. Any observer without the blue tinted glasses would have been able to recognize that we never had the squad and caliber of players in certain positions to go the distance in the first place. There were more better equipped teams than us. It's also worth noting that the chopping and changing of manager midway through the season and the disapproval of Di matteo's replacement by the fans resulting in a hostile and difficult working environment for the manager and players also impacted result. Attributing our inability to challenge for the title last season to the team being built around our best player and one of the finest players in Europe is silly to say the least.

So basically the individual quality and talent doesn't matter much, as long as the system is right and every player pulling in the same direction and committed to the system. well I will like to see Fergie, Jose, pep or any other "world class" manager out there win major titles with Crystal palace and a bunch of lee cattermoles

I still can't believe torres is one of the most decorated players still active. he's one lucky boy that's for sure
-
His lack of composure, finesse and football iq are the reasons why I can never feel comfortable rating him as one of the best players in his position. he might be a key player in our squad but I doubt he had walk into any top team in europe. So the fact that he's our best CM atm speaks more about the low quality of our midfield than rami as a player.

Which in conclusion makes oscar a superior playmaker and footballer to mata right?. by your logic carrick is a better player than Gerrard in his prime because the former won more games and trophies with his team and was a regular fixture of the title winning man utd teams. brilliant argument that.
-
I thought you said it was a team sport. so the manager, the other 10 players and the entire squad shouldn't be held accountable and all the blame should go to our best player mata. contradictory much?. By the same token our improved result this season is a result of Jose and the entire squad rather than one individual player. two can play that game
-
Which begs the important question. are we playing better quality of football or playing better generally than last season or just simply achieving better result as performance and result are 2 completely different things e.g UCL man utd- chelsea 2008,Chelsea- Barca 2009 VS chelsea-barca and bayern 2012 where the performance of the former was significantly superior while the latter produced better result. so i ask are we necessarily playing better this season and has oscar's influence this season being greater than mata's last season.
-
It's funny because no one on this forum and anywhere else said that last season when mata's confidence was still intact and wasn't required to do things he wasn't physically capable of doing. when he was allowed to pull the strings and play his natural game, he was undoubtedly our best player and instrumental to many of our victories last season. and he completely overshadowed and outperformed this same oscar, who was a regular feature in the team, last season.
-
I'm not interested in opinions (especially biased and agenda driven ones ) rather hard cold FACTS which remains that mata achieved an incredible feat of leading the league in assist for the past 2 seasons. If ever oscar achieves such feat or, to be lenient, comes close to mata's numbers for that period then you can get back to me. for now, there's no contest.
-
There's no maybe about it. statistically, visually and whatever measure and standard one can possibly apply, mata is light years ahead of oscar as a creative midfielder. no maybe about it. And what prompted the response to bluemourinho's comment wasn't whether oscar suits mourinho's style better (which is fair enough assertion) but that oscar is simply a superior attacking midfielder and footballer to mata which is a very absurd and poorly thought out statement which lacks any substance. running around and winning tackles isn't and will never be the ultimate measure of an AM.
-
So oscar is better than mata as a CAM now, Thought I had heard it all. what short memory some people have. this is the same mata that led the premier league in assist for 2 consecutive seasons with impressive goals ratio (for an AM) to boot which rightly earned him our POTY back to back. when or if ever oscar achieves such feat and level of productivity then that ridiculous notion might have some credence. But for now, this is like comparing ramires to yaya toure or arturo vidal. the difference in quality is clear and no amount of dip in form and managerial preference can change that.
-
It's ze magic of ze fa cup
-
Playing ramires on the right wing despite the wealth of wingers in our possession. Not fielding any reserve/back up players like Kalas, bertrand et al is just so wrong on so many levels. The only time chelsea managers in the past ever use Rami on the wing is in bug games against top attacking teams.
-
Shame on you for believing a leopard can change its spot.
-
Ramires has got to be one the worst players in tight spaces at the top level. He has zero composure when under pressure
-
I thought I was the onlyone that noticed. people can say whatever they want but I'm willing to bet my mortgage on the fact that the overall reaction and sentiment regarding the treatment mata has been subjected to, whether fairly or unfairly, this season would have been different if any other manager not named jose was in charge. no doubt about that whatsoever in my mind.
-
That we can both agree with. he will find a club that will happily accommodate and overlook his tactical deficiencies.
-
If you also share the same sentiments as Jose then why would you or anyone with that POV care whether mata leaves or not?. Oscar is superior playmaker to mata according to you and Jose, some people like myself disagree and believe he is too good to ride the bench so what's the issue. he should be allowed to leave for his own good then since we have a "better player" and are well stocked in his position right?
-
@theonlyplacetobe wrote Why has he received crappy treatment? Jose just rates Oscar higher than him in the middle and Willian better than him on the right-wing. How on Earth is that crappy treatment? And that's why I want him to join a club that would treat him with the level of respect he deserves. he's too good a playmaker to play second fiddle to anyone not named Iniesta,Ozil and Silva (possibly). Most teams in Europe realise this as he's very highly rated and he won't be having much regret if he moves in Jan or summer. so fair fucks
-
Just out of curiosity, did Lampard receive the same level of criticism when he pulled a similar stunt under AVB?
-
I'm surprised he's taken him this long to kick off. one things for sure though, he won't be short of suitors and offers if/when he becomes available on the market so our loss really. from mata's perspective, he knows plenty of top to emerging clubs will be after him and make him a starter in their respective teams so why should he settle for the crappy treatment he's been getting from jose. . . .he doesn't have the problem some players have of worrying that Chelsea could be their last and only chance of ever playing for a top club and at the highest level. good luck to him wherever he goes as he's one of my favourite Chelsea players, classy guy too.
