Romeu must be thrilled with the decision to let Meireles leave, he'll surely get chances this year now.

With Benayoun and Essien going on loan and Meireles apparently being sold, I guess Malouda has to be used now... I've seen him play in the pivot very well with France; unlikely, but maybe he's seen as an emergency option there. He's quite sound defensively and can play in the midfield...I actually think he could do a job. It's to be seen if he'll ever be used next to Mikel (probably not), but interesting to think about.

This match was a sobering reality check, but I'm not as bothered as some of you. We still have to find our best starting XI, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't include Ivanovic or Lampard. Shocked at how Ivanovic has been playing, makes me wonder if missing the CL final did a number on him?

2 players per position basically, with several players capable of filling in other areas effectively. I think we're okay, considering we also have Malouda, who is experienced and sometimes pretty decent.
