After Mata and Meireles signed, I was hoping never to see that midfield again...Any two out of those three is fine but all three together is a turgid midfield. All the pressure on Mata to create. Hopefully Malouda will show up and figure out he's not the central striker and will pass to a better shooting option when available. I hope that's true. It's better than 4-3-3 with the personnel on hand.

Every player can do better. Picking on that one player really doesn't bolster your argument. To have scored off of that would have been a spectacular goal. I'm not going to hold it against a player for not pulling off the spectacular. I will criticize a player for making fundamental mistakes. Like two footed challenges, for which I called Torres an idiot. The question wasn't if he was brilliant. You said he didn't make a huge impact. I say he did in the short time he was on the pitch. Because he abdicated his spot on the pitch through his own fault, I agree he doesn't deserve a single vote for MOTM.
-
I would never vote for a player who gets sent off in the first half. I agree he was far from MOTM as he only played 39 minutes and put his team under pressure with his sending off. But to say he didn't make a huge impact is selling him short. He was intrinsically involved with the first two goals and he was the straw that stirred the drink for Chelsea while he was on the pitch. It was after his goal that Chelsea looked very good and fluid. He was possibly the best player on the pitch before he walked off. Not MOTM by a mile because of his sending off but for the 38 minutes he did play--he did have a big impact, both good and bad.

Unless Torres is playing like a donkey, why would you sub him? It's not like he has to be rested for PL games.
-
Isn't the joke is that Torrente is an Atletico fan? Torres made a cameo in one of the movies.
-
They'll probably boo Torres though. For his Atletico past and also because they think Soldado should replace him on the national team.
-
They want to make sure they have Torres admitting he sucked and thus justifying the shit pile they sprang on him. You'll never hear or read another interesting Torres interview again. At least until he leaves England. Pity because he's given some thoughtful and candid (or as candid he can be as a professional footballer) interviews in the past. But now he can't sneeze without the English press jumping down his throat and examining his tonsils.
-
Erghh...that's not quite what I wrote but I'm happy you agree with the general point...
-
Torres scores a goal. Drogba scores a goal. Ergo they should play together. Why? The goals do not disguise the issue that they're both central forwards and they will end up occupying the same space. This will create a massive imbalance to the team. And yes, I know the Anelka learned to play with Drogba argument. Who is going to be Anelka between Nando and Didier? Neither will be willing on a consistent basis to go wide or deep like Anelka does.

Jumping the gun a bit here? Let's hope he gets one against Valencia and stays match sharp for the next month.
-
CL--win at home, draw away and you're gold. This is sensible. Whether or not AVB will compromise the beautiful attacking football for a result will be revealed Wednesday night.
-
I think he had a 'blonde moment' on Saturday. Blondies, we kid because we love...
-
So bad it's good
-
When he left, they kept spouting that Torres would always walk alone. If only they would keep their word. Seriously, if you check some of their boards, they post more about Torres than we do here. The LFC propaganda machine wheedles on.
-
Does that make him a proper West Londoner now? I'm not sure he should have shared that info. You'll have people stalking him from home to the Bridge on game days now. **Hmmm...any deals to London... There are more photos out there. One showing him with his family. Walking to work with the family. How cool is that? Dean obviously saw Nando before the match and the card was for dressing like a 14 year old. He walks to work in his Chelsea trackie and cap
-
It was legit.
-
Ah, got it. I saw Everton on Oct. 15 and thought it was the CC game.
-
So does he miss only league games? Or does the Carling Cup game count too?
-
Two red cards in a week...please, AVB, no more complaints about the refs.
-
Thought he moved out near Cobham? Must have been a long walk to the Bridge, maybe that's why he was so chippy.
-
Let's put it down to getting all the negatives out of the way before October. The one, one, positive from the game is it's clear he's back on form. It's been so long since seeing an effective Torres. The concern is if the three games out will disrupt the flow.
-
He had already done a fine job of slowing down the attack. Even as his biggest fan (sorry Tortilla), he really did mess up. Let's hope he does well in the CL games and Chelsea have enough firepower to do without him for the PL ones.
-
Torres should talk less with the refs as it just distracts him from being brilliant. And today he clearly wasn't happy with the ref and it probably increased the blood pressure a bit. He needs to focus that fire towards goal. Just gutted that he'll only have three games between now and November (!).
-
He's always played games with a bit of fire but trusted him to not quite go over the edge. And I've been right since he's never gotten a red since coming to England...oh well there's a first out of his system now. He got the crap miss out last week, the red this week, he should be good for the rest of the season. Just worried his rhythm will be disrupted with the ban. He's looking so good now. That pass to open up Swansea led to Ramires' goal.
-
Great job to win 4-1 while a man down for 65 minutes. Boswinga can't defender nor cross... Torres, just think of October as a way to rest and be ready for the following 7 months. No more craziness from you.
