People overrate his attacking abilities, I think. Mindlessly wandering up the pitch really quick in a straight line doesn't constitute ''good attacking''. His crossing is atrocious, is prone to giving the ball away very high up the pitch and is even worse at tracking back after surrendering possession. I even read someone mentioning he has attacking 'flair', which made me laugh my head off. I realize he's often one of the favourite scapegoats on this forum when things don't go our way, but to me he's a decent squad player not particulary adept at either of the jobs you'd expect of a fullback.

Haven't read the entire thread, but judging from the last few pages, it seems Lampard has been getting stick again. Not sure if those people noticed that he was doing a job on Ever Banega in the first half - and deserves some credit for keeping their best player (imo) relatively quiet. Post HT there's been the immaculately weighted pass to Ramires, the pass for Torres and the goal of course. But evidently, the Lampard bashing ship had sailed by then. As I post this, he's come off. Good game, Lamps.

Not going to judge the team in a technical sense, considering it was mostly a bunch of fringe players, no-hopers and full debutants thrown together. Hardly anyone of them would have been match fit, so lasting 120 mins, 73 of those with a man less is credit to the players. Individually speaking, Josh, Malouda and Lampard stood out for me. Oriol and Ryan looked alright, Lukaku could have (should have...) done better but it's easy to forget the lad is just 18. Alex was poor imo, yes he put in a couple of last ditch tackles in the first half but that masks the fact that he put himself in those nervous situations in a bid to scramble back to the goal having allowed the runner to get goalside in the first place. Glad Cech and Studge will be back for the next one, delighted we got through a fucking shootout for once.

Didn't do well when on the ball. Almost always made the wrong decision between shooting or passing and thus a few moves broke down. Needs a better first touch but when playing with his back to goal it doesn't matter that much because his strength is unreal.
