  1. Getafe were promoted last to last season and finished 9th under Schuster in la liga and for the sensational achievemnt he got the madrid job.. then they played attacking football, the team was already built and only needed a bit of tweaking.. they finished 14th under laudrup.. they had their high scoring games but weren't clinical and hence often resorted to defenidng their lead.. blackburn's quality comes through the manger getting the maximum out of their players, to get santa cruz for 3.5million, and then get all those goals is amazing.. i wouldn't be too off target to suggest blackburn have s[pent marginally more than getafe this season but i'm not sure.
  2. that is if you'd have done everything perfect on your part, we fucked up too many times during his reign and even towards the end of the season of which he is gloating about..
  3. Chelsea face fight with Portuguese FA over Scolari The Portuguese Football Federation said last night that Chelsea are keen to appoint Luiz Felipe Scolari as their next manager. "I already know that Chelsea are interested in Scolari," said the federation's vice-president Amandio De Carvalho when asked about the Brazilian's future. Scolari is out of contract after Euro 2008, and the Portuguese confirmed that they want to hold talks with him about a new deal when the squad arrives in Switzerland on Sunday ahead of the tournament. Scolari has also let it be known that he wants to sort out his future in the next couple of weeks which means that Chelsea may have to move quickly if they intend to choose him as Avram Grant's successor. Gilberto Madial, the federation's president, is likely to offer Scolari a new contract and a pay increase – he currently earns €2.4m (£1.9m) a year. The former World Cup winner, who is increasingly unlikely to join Manchester City, knows that he could earn far more at Stamford Bridge. In some ways, however, the scenario is started to look like a re-run of the Football Association's pursuit of Scolari in 2006. With still no consensus from the Chelsea hierarchy on whom they should move for to succeed Grant, the clubs and national associations who believe that their managers are under consideration are moving to shore up their men with new contracts. Mark Hughes is the only British manager in Roman Abramovich's sights, but the Chelsea owner will not get his man cheap if he decides to try and do a deal with Blackburn Rovers this month. Hughes' future at Ewood Park is protected by the same sort of rolling contract deal that Sir Alex Ferguson has with Manchester United. Hughes agreed a two-year fixed contract deal with Blackburn last summer, with an extra year on a rolling contract. There are no plans at the club to speak to their manager (who is currently on holiday) about a new deal this summer because they believe the two years' notice that would have to be paid up on his contract gives them adequate protection. There have been no approaches yet from Chelsea for the 44-year-old. The rolling contract was used by Ferguson when he signed his last deal with United in January 2004 and a similar arrangement means Blackburn can go down to the last year of a contract without fear of losing Hughes without compensation. At the very least, Blackburn will be able to demand one year's value of the contract although that is not likely to be a problem for Abramovich. Hughes, who finished seventh with Blackburn in the Premier League this season, is understood to be the candidate that Peter Kenyon, Chelsea's chief executive, is backing for the job. With no official contact yet for Hughes and an inquiry for the former Germany manager Jürgen Klinsmann – now the new Bayern Munich manager – rebuffed, it is only Roberto Mancini of the front-runners who has announced his candidature. Mancini's drawn-out departure from Internazionale – he announced his intention to quit when they were eliminated by Liverpool from the Champions League in March – came to a close yesterday when Mancini's advisor, Maurizio de Giorgis, confirmed that he had been sacked on Tuesday. He said that there had been no contact with Chelsea, adding: "Roberto Mancini is not a person or coach who likes to propose himself to a club, he waits for a club to look after him so we are in that position right now. "We are not proposing Mancini to any club, but Chelsea are one of the top five clubs in the world so it is more likely, if there will be any talk, for it to happen now rather than then." Jose Mourinho is expected to be named the new manager of the Serie A club within the next two days. The former Chelsea manager's interest in Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba is long-standing, but it now seems that he will also try to recruit his former defender Ricardo Carvalho, who also played for him at Porto, when he takes over the Milan club. 9. Avram Grant enlists Diana lawyer to fight Chelsea The fallout from Avram Grant’s controversial sacking by Chelsea took an intriguing twist yesterday when it emerged that the Israeli has appointed Anthony Julius, one of the country’s most high-profile solicitors and best known for representing Diana, Princess of Wales, in her divorce from the Prince of Wales, to negotiate his severance terms. Grant is understood to have been unhappy with the payoff offered by Peter Kenyon, the Chelsea chief executive, after two days of talks over the weekend, as it contrasted unfavourably with the £12 million José Mourinho received in the wake of his dismissal last September. He has brought in Julius to help secure him a better deal. Grant’s decision to recruit such a high-powered advocate indicates that his relationship with Chelsea could turn nasty, a remarkable development given that he was originally given the job of first-team coach on the strength of his friendship with Roman Abramovich, the owner. The Israeli has told friends that he felt betrayed at the manner of his dismissal, being told that he was being sacked only on Saturday morning when it had been an open secret in football circles for several weeks. Julius, a consultant with Mishcon de Reya, the London law firm, was also used in conjunction with Daniel Naftalian, a partner at Mishcon, when Grant was given a new four-year contract by Chelsea last December, with the result that his salary increased from £980,000 to £2.4 million a year. Julius, 51, is best known for achieving a £17 million judgment for the late Princess, but also received fame for successfully defending Deborah Lipstadt, the American historian, against a libel suit brought against her by David Irving, the Holocaust-denying historian. He also acted for Heather Mills in her divorce from Sir Paul McCartney. Chelsea have yet to decide on the man they want to succeed Grant as manager, with the board and Abramovich’s various advisers divided over who to approach. Kenyon, Bruce Buck, the chairman, and Eugene Tenenbaum, Abramovich’s right-hand man, met yesterday in London to discuss how to resolve a crisis of their own making, but no firm resolution as to how to proceed was agreed upon. The West London club are prepared to wait to secure the right man, which may be just as well as several of the leading candidates are busy preparing for next month’s European Championship finals, while the development of factions within the club’s hierarchy makes a delay even more likely. Tenenbaum has told the owner that Chelsea need a strong manager to regain control of the dressing-room, leading him to champion the cause of Guus Hiddink, the Dutch coach of Russia. As well as an impeccable CV, Hiddink has a reputation as a disciplinarian and enjoys a good relationship with Abramovich. Eugene Shvidler, another of Abramovich’s key aides, has mentioned Dick Advocaat, another Dutchman, whose stock is high after leading Zenit St Petersburg to victory in the Uefa Cup final. Kenyon is talking up the credentials of Mark Hughes. As well as being impressed with Hughes’s work at Blackburn Rovers, the chief executive is also acutely aware of the need to appease the fans and Hughes was a popular player during his three-year stay at the club in the 1990s. 16. Feel sorry for you and your dad mate, Rome it is..
  17. the only reason i'd be happy if he came. as a close follower of la liga, i respect the way he has brought out the best from individuals more importantly young players but he has also turned up for matches, even big ones, unprepared and without a plan B, made horrendous team selections, some prefer to call them bold but as long as they dont yield dividends they are crap to me.. but if he came i'd atleast give him a chance.. for which he needs to thank roman and kenyon cos they were smart enough to put grant in as a scapegoat for all the fans frustrations..
  18. Anelka unhappy with Blues role Nicolas Anelka has voiced his frustration at being asked to play out of position for Chelsea, while he has also admitted that he refused to take one of the first five penalties in the UEFA Champions League final. Anelka has not been a regular starter since moving to Stamford Bridge from Bolton in the January transfer window and he has often had to play on the wing rather than in his preferred front role. The Frenchman claims that he was led to believe he would start alongside Didier Drogba in most games, but Avram Grant has been reluctant to change his formation. He is unhappy with his role and has demanded to be used as a striker when the new season gets underway. "Since I have joined the club, I never played in my right position, as second centre-forward," Anelka told L'Equipe. "I have always played on the left or the right. I have never said anything so far. I was a new man in the team, coming from Bolton. But next season it will be different, I won't be a new man anymore, I will be a Chelsea player. "When I came here, I was told I will play in a 4-4-2 system. I didn't come to play on the right or left. "I don't have to prove my value in the centre. We could have played together with Didier Drogba. "But we never even worked on our partnership during training sessions." Anelka came on in extra-time in the Champions League final before his sudden death penalty was saved by Edwin van der Sar to give victory to Manchester United. He admits it was difficult to play a part in the shoot-out after coming on so late, adding: "I never thought I would come onto the pitch. "I stayed sitting on the bench for 110 minutes, and then I have been asked to play after just one minute of warm-up. "I don't know if it has ever happened in a Champions League final, with such an intensity, to play without a warm-up. "I was asked to be among the five penalty kickers. I said 'out of the question. I came in almost as right full-back and you want me to kick a penalty?' Finally I had to go as number seven." Source:SKY
