  2. ED SHEERAN ACQUIRES MINORITY STAKE IN IPSWICH TOWN https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2024/august/15/ed-sheeran-acquires-minority-stake/ Ipswich Town can today announce that Ed Sheeran has acquired a minority stake in the Football Club. Ed, a lifelong fan who has been the front of shirt sponsor for the Men’s and Women’s teams since 2021, has acquired his shares through Gamechanger 20 Ltd. His total stake in the Football Club is 1.4%, and as part of the agreement, Ed will have long-term use of an executive box at Portman Road stadium, which he has personalised ahead of the 2024/25 season. Ed will not join the board of the Football Club as this is a passive and minority investment only. “I am really excited to have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club,” Ed said.  “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.  “I have lived in Suffolk since I was three years old and, while I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of the community and protected.  “It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town. There are ups and downs but football is all about taking the highs and the lows. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, this is just me putting some money into the club I love and them returning the gesture, so please don’t get onto me with signing suggestions or tactics to play!  “I’m excited for the Premier League to start this weekend. Let’s go!”  Mark Ashton, Chairman of the Club, added: “This is an incredibly proud day for the Football Club. “The support Ed and his team have shown us over the last three years has been nothing short of remarkable and for him to make this investment in the Club feels like the natural progression in our relationship.  “For one of the biggest artists in the world to give us so much of his time and give the Club such incredible exposure around the world, while asking for very little in return, highlights just what makes this relationship such a special one.  “It’s been a pleasure to get to know Ed and his team over the last three years and we look forward to building our relationship further now as the Club enters the Premier League.”

  5. Roy Keane makes bleak prediction for Chelsea summer signing Pedro Neto https://metro.co.uk/2024/08/14/roy-keane-predicts-Chelsea-summer-signing-will-flop-this-season-21418786/ Roy Keane believes Pedro Neto will ‘add to the chaos’ at Chelsea and ultimately flop at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea completed a £54m move for the Portugal winger last week, with Neto signing a seven-year deal with the Blues until 2031. Neto, who spent five productive years at Wolves, was presented to Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge on Sunday during a pre-season friendly against Inter Milan. Chelsea have endured another turbulent summer, changing manager after Mauricio Pochettino agreed to leave and spending almost £200m on a number of signings. But Keane expects injury-prone Neto to ‘add to the chaos’ in west London and believes he will endure a disappointing first season for Chelsea. When ex-Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright suggested Neto could be one of the signings of the summer, Keane said on The Overlap with Sky Bet: ‘No! He’s always injured! F*** sake. He’s like [Luke] Shaw. ‘He’ll add to the chaos. He’s going to add to the chaos. He will run everywhere and then spend six months on the treatment table with a hamstring injury.’ Following his move to Stamford Bridge, Neto said: ‘I feel really grateful to have joined this club. ‘I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.’ Chelsea begin their 2024-25 campaign on Sunday against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

  7. fabriziorom 3 h 🚨 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: Chelsea and Atlético are still working on João Félix and Conor Gallagher deal 🔀👀 After Gallagher back to London despite medical and all contracts done, clubs keep talking to find new solution. Omorodion deal off made the deal complicated but the two clubs are still on it… despite that tense situation. Atlético still want Gallagher but on new terms, Chelsea open to discussing João but there’s a gap in valuation. João Félix has already said 𝐲𝐞𝐬 to Chelsea return and his agent Mendes keeps working on the deal, talks on. It’s very tricky situation… but still working on that 👀

  10. https://football-italia.net/napoli-lock-down-neres-Chelsea-wait-lukaku/ David Neres now, Lukaku later With that in mind, Sky Sport Italia and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano both report that Napoli are tired of waiting and will use that cash for David Neres. He will cost €28-30m including add-ons and can be ready to undergo a medical as early as Monday, with the player travelling over the weekend. Neres was already left out of the Benfica squad for this weekend’s game because the move was known to be imminent. While Lukaku remains a target for the Partenopei, Antonio Conte will have to wait a little longer for this reunion.

  14. Well, they are 3 of the top 5 players on the planet, along with Rodri and Håland. I am deffo going to be watching Real's games this season. I do think they will miss Kroos, especially as Camavinga is now out for a couple months at least, and their back 4 needs additions for sure.
  15. Chelsea in thrall to every talent except their own There is a scene in This Is Spinal Tap where the band run into another rock musician, Duke Fame. A snub provokes disdain. “We carried him,” says David St Hubbins, recalling a previous tour. “We had to apologise for him with our set. They were still booing him when we came on.” Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea manager, knows how that feels. After a poor pre-season, conceding 12 goals in the first five games — including four to Celtic — he revealed exactly who was responsible: Mauricio Pochettino, sacked on May 21. So pervasive was his influence, it seems, Chelsea were still defending like drains close to three months later. Yet Chelsea finished the last campaign under Pochettino strongly. They conceded four goals in the final five games, all of which were won. And Pochettino never had his full-strength back four all season. Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell started 42 out of 152 games between them, none together, and 28 of those were played by Silva, who will be 40 in September. There are many reasons why Chelsea’s defence may have fallen short of expectations last season. By comparison, Maresca has struck lucky. Fofana is back and Pochettino developed Marc Cucurella into Chelsea’s starting left back, ahead of Chilwell. James is injured, but Malo Gusto at right back was one of the standout performers in the previous campaign. It would appear the new manager has more to thank his predecessor for than he imagines. Yet that’s Chelsea all over. They seem a very ungrateful bunch, in thrall to every young player on the planet apart from those under their noses. Nine games for Santos, or 30 for Sporting Lisbon B are valued more than decades of devotion from Conor Gallagher, Trevor Chalobah or Mason Mount. The first-team squad is now in possession of six goalkeepers, and none would get in the first team of any club that finished in the top half of the Premier League last season. Players who have been with Chelsea since school are now barred from the first-team building as a means of getting them off the wage bill. Who runs a club like this? Who alienates the very group that can save the owners money: the academy youth? Why send a promising talent to Chelsea, given the way they have treated the products of their system? Better to play 12 games for Rennes and wait for the call. Gallagher is now in limbo because part of the deal that was taking him to Atletico Madrid — not his choice — has collapsed. Samu Omorodion, who was coming the other way, has called off the move. With 22 starts in La Liga, maybe he feels he has too much experience. Maresca blamed fan favourite Gallagher’s departure on the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules but that’s more misdirection. Yes, on the balance sheet, homegrown talent counts for more, but there are plenty of alternatives in Chelsea’s overblown squad. The fear is that there is no market for them. No doubt that’s Pochettino’s fault too.
