He's going to be unfairly compared with Mata for the rest of his Chelsea career. That's simply the reality of the situation. Spend it on who exactly? Costa who is currently in the title race & CLrace & could be a one season wonder for all we know? Falcao who just suffered a season ending injury? Cavani who PSG have no incentive to sell? Rooney who would be included in the Mata deal if it was possible? Who exactly is this World Class striker we're going to sign in January? The only logical reason for selling Mata is if it was abroad, there's no logical reasoning in weakening our squad in the middle of the season.

People also underestimate how much of a loss JT was last season. He only started 11 games last season. Instead Mata our best performing player gets the blame for the failure. Not the lack of an elite striker to bail us out, the poisonous atmosphere around the club after RDM's sacking or the error prone defending & lack of leadership at the back. Liverpool still have a better record without Suarez than they do with him playing despite their resurgence this year, I suppose they should have gotten rid in the summer right?

We were in the title hunt last year sitting in third just 4 points off Utd before RDM was sacked. That was the United side that walked the League at a canter not the one currently languishing in 7th.

They're only 6 points behind Liverpool now. Adding a World Class midfielder who can score, always performs in big games and is one of the 3 best playmakers on the planet will be a massive improvement on Valencia and Ashley Young although he doesn't track back as well as those two. Which seems to be all that matters nowadays. They're now my favourites for 4th.

Believe it or not I've actually backed Jose on most things up until now (including the mini-meltdown on here when we were really struggling earlier this season or the outrage we loaned Lukaku to Everton). I just can't contemplate selling our best player despite him not getting a fair shot all season long and to our rivals nevertheless. The boring football and results first mentality as well as the near-exclusion and development of youth are all staples of his management I've learned to accept during his first tenure here.

Still haven't forgiven Jose for the Robben debacle. This seems like déjà vu.

How many debuts has Jose handed to youth players this season? Which players have developed/improved under him? Have we improved stylistically under Mourinho after he claimed we played defensive and negative football under Rafa/RDM? This new dawn, RIP player power nonsense is utterly delusional.
