Apart from the last fifteen minutes we did triy to move the ball towards their half, it was n't parking the bus. Timo lost his irons yesterday and he made a Morata out of himself in the last minute of the first half. Also with 2-3 clean headers their keeper was lucky because the ball went straight at him. I don't know how Sevilla compares to Bayern Munich but they are certinly the betters of Real-Barca-Atletico these days. I believe now that things can only get better - not like last year when the initial good performances in the league was obvious they could n't last.

Tha last two Spanish visitors beat us. Atletico 1-3, Valencia 0-1.

Krasnodar looked fairly mediocre to me against PAOK. They won both legs, 2-1, 2-1 but they are not really that much better than PAOK. And Rennes failed to beat them tonight (1-1).

Amidst the gloom and doom, Timo is the new Chelsea super star. The other man from Germany, Havertz, has yet to show his true colours.

What you say is in a sense true because they had some more shots from the edge of the box that could have found the target. I explained Kepa's flaw though. He 's not so much of a ball dropsie but he is not using his legs. Then the defense we have do this thing too: They don't play safety, they are too anxious to see the ball pushed forward even when the scoreline does not dictate such necessity. Those are two regular mistakes I have spotted, plus Christensen-Alonso-Zouma being somewhat below the level of the club. Also it's all about running. You know why we were better than PAOK Salonika ? It's not because we have such superior ball skills. It was because we ran like an express and they were barges. Against Bayern Munich, it was different. We were the barge, they were the express train.

Another thing about the defense is they 're not taught to watch after their *ss. Zouma behaved as if we were 1-0 down and we were into "attack or die" mode.when he made that dangerous pass to the goalkeeper. He could have quite easily have kicked the ball out for a Southampton corner.

Kepa cannot work with his legs. He stays put then he dives but he cannot reach balls. That last minute shot could have been easily parried if he moved a little to his right before diving. He had time. It's the umpteenth time. Before that he made some good saves and he cannot be blamed for Southampton's second goal - that one was Zouma's error. Thankfully the season will be over soon - only seven months left.

All this talk reminds of the famous deabte of the seventies with the slogan "bring back the wingers". But if sir Alf brought back the wingers he would also have to talk the opposition into leaving empty spaces for them. Obviously it's not Frank's fault when the ball slips under Tiago Silva's foot and we saw a certain improvement defense-wise today. But there is no Eden in the team anymore and no Didier Drogba to perform magic. The new star Havertz did not even play today. At least we got Timo who is going the prove the better of Diego. I thnk it's a disease with goalkeepers passing the ball to the opponent. Last week we profited, now Kepa passed to Mane ! In the old days when returning the ball to the goalkeeper was allowed it was pretty rare. I remember Lev Yashin did a Kepa thing once against Greece but it was n't the sort of thing you expected to see in a football match. We need to show a different face against Liverpool next Sunday if we are to establish ourselves as league contenders. Today the midfield had a day off and our defenders were inviting Brighton players to try easy long range shots, out of which we conceded a goal. About Kepa I 'm not sure he should start and not Caballero. Let's also consider the goals we scored: First one was a fluke -they made a childish error. Second one was good but from 30 meters out anyone can do it once in his life. The third was also a fluke. If there is a plus from today's win I will acknowledge it only ig Brighton prove to be a force in this year's EPL.
