  1. Before the Taliban takeover of 2021 I think I read about a gallop poll somewhere. 50% of the Afghanis were against the Taliban while the other 50% were pro-Taliban, but 80% wanted these laws for women !
  2. I wanted the double Celta Vigo - Brighton. When you don't bet they win !
  3. The Soviets were pro-Israel early on, in the late forties when Israel was created. But seeing that Israel was allied with the USA and seeing the old Arab monarchies being toppled and replaced by baathist regimes they changed sides. They also began persecuting Jews living in the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union could n't or would n't do much to help the Arabs defeat Israel but they stayed around till the nineties. Gorbatchev broke his ties with the baathists. Indeed Saddam Hussein was the first victim. When he went into Kuwait he was expecting Soviet veto in the UN and he was a happy man - mission acomplished. But when it was announced USSR was not vetoing operation desert shield the game was practically over. Greek commies I knew went pale when they heard Gorbatchev declined to veto. They became truly desperate later, when the coup against Gorbetchev failed, but also with desert shield as it spelled defeat for Saddam. Putin is against Israel now, but his client state is Iran a bit further out. Egypt, Libya, Syria are gone. To attack Iran is no small undertaking though. I have studied the map and it appears from one size and beyond countries cannot be invaded. So in Europe Czechoslovakia and Hungary could easily be invaded by the USSR, but Romania and Jugoslavia no. In the middle east Iraq could be invaded and it was in 2003 but Iran or Turkey no, unless one is prepared for a gigantic war. In Asia North Korea can be invaded but is protected by China. But still we don't know the future. As far as evil regimes are concerned Iran tops the list.
  4. I liked Joao Felix. He was a victim of the great purge after the Potter season (Kovacic - Kai - Ziyech ...). I believe he's going to do better this time.
  5. There are the unintentional hand balls. The record case was in one Chelsea v. Man. United at the bridge. Terry heads the ball and it's going straight in but it's stopped by the arm of a United player. Only the United player was looking the other way when the ball found him. It was not given - we did not even complain about it. Then they started giving all and sundry as hand balls. Liverpool - Spurs champions league final, the 1-0 was one such - unintentional hand ball given as a pen from which Pool scored. Now it's "we the Vlachs, when it chances". So we have to take Kovacic to the Yard and if he confesses then it's a pen. What about the free kick the citizens stopped with theIr hands last season. That too was n't ?
  6. Are you happy with Nkunku ? I was the first who spotted him -privately that is- when he was playing for Leipzig and I was when happy Chelsea began negotiations. Slight worries because Timo Werner came from the same team and he did n't make it, but I dismissed those. Now he is not proving a new Diego. Jackson is a new Remy or a new Bats but where is Nkunku's scoring
  7. I said I was not going to write anything in this City thread because of the team's alleged unreadiness, or unreadiness. But this is about Taylor. First of all when we were still under Abramovitch the club had requested not to be refereed by Anthony Taylor again. What happened to that ? Now about Sunday: 1st) Jackson goal. Jackson's goal was offside. Where he stands half of his body is beyond the line and the rebound does not cancel the offside. The opposition player has to play the ball intentionally to cancel the offside. 2n) Enzo, Enzo is brought down inside the area from behind. It was a police against demonstrator situation and Taylor waves play on. 3d) Kovacic's hand ball. That was an outstretched arm, same as last year in the Etihad. That should have been given was the verdict and the same applies for Sunday's match. Taylor again waves play on. Evidently this man is not an ... Altrincham fan but a sworn enemy of Chelsea football club.
  8. Hillary was an exception to the rule. She was 2% ahead but Trump was closing and eventually Hillary did win the national vote by 0.5% but lost the states. The huge upset was in 1948, Truman v. Hewey but I guess the gallop polls were in archaic state then. Do you know when the first Greek poll was published ? It was in 1985 ! I had a friend who was a doctor and we were good at this but when we saw every silly tabloid publishing polls after that we said "pfff laisse les pauvres" and did n't bother anymore. What a miscalculation ! We would be the first table infront of the orchestra now.
  9. Harris ahead of Trump in the betting (1.80 - 2.00). The one ahead in the first week of September is almost always the winner.
  10. I hope it's the last we saw of Mudryk. Sterling despite his antics proves useful sometimes. Mudryk never.
  11. So was that what you expected to see ? Last minute equalizer against a team sized as Everton - Bournemouth ? I won't write anything on the topic Man. City - Chelsea next week. Let's have the match against City wiped out from memory unless we win and see what happens next.
  12. Second division next year. With Carlisle and Preston Northend.
  13. It's Arteta's league. Chelsea if the present situation continues which it will, are going to finish clear of Everton who will escape relegation the last hour.
  14. I liked Servette's back line against Braga yesterday. It was a bad betting miss as I was onto Braga to double with Ajax. But I liked the way they stopped Braga from attacking. The Portuguese had to bleed to take the ball downfield and try something and Braga is the fourth power in Portugal known for their skillfull attackers. Braga was never eliminated by a Greek team whereas the Swiss teams never went through against a Greek team. That was a good verrou system, but at the moment ours looks like a defeated army running for life.
  15. Is it ? They watch them from a fair distance.
  16. We scored 9 goals in five matches. Fair enough. But the defense was turned into sh*t. It looks like Maresca wants the defenders to take positions rather than man to man marking. So they collapse like house of cards.
  17. I was thinking of making some bold statements but not take on the judges like this ! After all their commie-ness, rishi sunak-ness a.s.o. was something invisible. But it's a theory - I have to get hold of the minutes of the trial and read them to understand.
