Chelsea are set to sign veteran Brazil midfielder Mineiro on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving German side Hertha Berlin at the end of last season.
Mineiro had been linked with Arsenal and Birmingham, but now looks set to seal a move to Stamford Bridge within 24 hours after agreeing terms.
"Mineiro is a player I need because I lost Michael Essien for six months and only Jon Mikel Obi is there for us," said Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Ghana midfielder Essien is out for around six months after suffering an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury while on World Cup qualifying duty.

Hmm.. at 33 years of age. I know a bit of him from his days at Hertha Berlin but that's about it. He's played for a lot of clubs in Brazil
Man United have taken advantage of us to be honest. I don't like the way we're playing, Drogba needs to come on in the second half, and Anelka to come off, he's been hopeless!!
Great!! Only 45 minutes to go and our long unbeaten run could be gone!
Just got back home from the game!! I thoroughly enjoyed the night out, great game, great goals, and a fantastic victory!!
Shame Belletti couldn't strike a hum dinger from far out, good too see two Frenchmen on the score sheet!
Great win today, and a much better performance.. kept Robinho quiet for most of the game bar his goal, and I must admit Lampard's goal was fantastic to watch, as was Anelka's
Who the fuck needs Robinho????
