Yeah having a creative RW will magically erase the bad passing game he had against Man U... people sometimes.
-
I didn't expect anything amazing, but still... his passing was unusually bad.

Dissappointing performance. Lacks killer instinct, he will rarely if ever carry the team. We are missing a natural goalscorer in our AM. The fact that our midfield never has much time on the ball against good teams doesn't help either.

Mixed feelings about this game, aside from the backfour everybody underperformed. It is not a bad result, but that's 2 big games in a row where we basically had the win in the bag. Shit like that stings. Big points i took from this game: 1. Our attacking midfield lacks killer instinct (yes even Hazard) like José mentioned in his interview. Im not asking for CR7/Messi lvl, but players like Robben/Ribery/Reus are killers in front of goal. Our players do create chances but something is missing... Such thing is hard to teach but maybe a player like Reus who is both good on the ball (looking at Schürrle) + infront of goal (mainly Willian) is something we need. Unless Hazard starts banging in those goals on a regular basis. 2. Our bench is pretty weak, aside from André we don't really have an attacking threat up our sleeves (Costa/Remy where out though). I would take last years bench over this years. 3. Controlling the midfield against decent opposition. Do we ever actually own possession against a top 5 team? It isn't José forte, but it always seems like we play the underdog position. I know for sure we won't ever control the midfield in a 2 man's pivot (not with Cesc). Cesc isn't a commanding presence, and he needs a box to box besides himself to relief pressure. Oscar is a good presser but he isn't the best passer under pressure. Still it is early in the season, and we are still in a good position. Our team still has alot of points too improve upon though.

Don't forget Rooney.

You have no idea how funny that sounds for a dutch speaker

He had a great game yesterday, and offers alot more than Azpi in an attacking situation. Regarding the RB situation, im against dropping Ivanovic in current form. Ivanovic play's as a winger basically with Willian cutting inside. This gives the opposition defenders a difficult decision in who they should mark, wich results into added distraction. Azpi on the other hand is much more suited to play with Schürrle because the latter tends to stick out wide and doesn't offer the same cover to his fullback than Willian does.

In the last 3 games he started for us he actually did have an impact on the scoreline (Villa, Palace, Maribor). He assisted and scored a goal against Villa and was responsible for some very important early setpieces against Palace and Maribor respectively: got fouled on wich resulted in the Oscar free-kick goal + his action against Maribor that resulted in the Drogba penalty goal. The last two actions are not registered in the match statistics but it shows that he is more involved in the final third. He also average's alot more shots in the last couple of games that with a little bit of a luck could've resulted with his name on the scoresheet (his effort late in the game last night as the prime example). Still, a missed shot is a missed shot at the end of the day. If he keeps a consistency in these type of performances, the goals/assists will flow naturally as a result. The coming months will be vital to see if he really has developed. Like Mourinho said, a little bit of this and a little bit of that and he is a fantastic player. He has less things to focus on too improve his play unlike let's say Schürrle who needs another season to improve bigger gaps in his "overall" play.

Luis, Hazard and Willian had their best matches today. Luis is breath of fresh air, and a huge relief for Hazard because he offers so much in the overlap. Hazard while overthinking it a tad too much during most of the game, released his demons at the end and got a well deserved goal. Willian was our engine today, i think he saw every side of the pitch and yet it felt he could play for another hour. Unlucky that he didn't get on the scoresheet with the screamer that almost broke the goalbar, this performance will probably be forgotten by most people resulting in the status of "most underrated Chelsea player" he currently holds (does anyone really miss Schürrle?). Zouma was also solid, and to cap it all of a perfect debut for Nathan Aké!

Their should be a "MOTM for everyone" option
-
This guy is so flexible, got some Alaba vibes from him.
-
Showed some real determination today, Mourinho's words are really reaching him. Still have a feeling his best form is yet to come
-
This must be signing of the summer already! Glorious player (plz don't fall off in january ), everything clicks and his influence is contagious. I love you Cesc!
-
Not going to happen but one can hope
-
What a pass from Ake, goodness me
-
Dammit Drogba lacks a bit of pace
-
Perfect line-up.

Our U19's are playing Maribor atm.

Azpi is not losing his place, Mourinho has a hard on for him. I tbh find him a tad bit overrated because he doesn't offer much in the overlap with Hazard (even Bertrand would be a better option in that regard if he wasn't loaned out). Defensive stability comes first ofcourse, but Luis is no slouch in that regard either when fully match fit. Come next year i can see him reverting back to right back and Luis on the left (Ivanovic will occupy the spot Terry will leave), though i hope Bertrand also gets his chances then if he continues the way he is playing at Southampton. We need more homegrown players anyway.

It's a stupid question anyway this early in the season.
