Chelsea Football Club announced Tuesday (19/04/11) that it has teamed up with international sports marketing agency SPORTFIVE.

SPORTFIVE International will work on behalf of Chelsea to market the club's first team players across Europe, including newly signed Fernando Torres and David Luiz. The club owns the image rights of 19 members of the squad and SPORTFIVE will be looking to help partner them with major and local brands, as part of their own ambassadorial programmes.

The global appeal of Chelsea is one of the major factors in SPORTFIVE's decision to partner with the London club. The Chelsea squad is made up of players from three continents and consists of 16 national team players representing 11 different countries and includes three current national team captains.

Chelsea Chief Executive, Ron Gourlay, said: "Chelsea is delighted to be partnering with SPORTFIVE. We want to work with market leaders like SPORTFIVE and they certainly have the knowledge and experience needed. We expect to work very closely together to build on the club and our players' global image and business reputation."

Media-image rights is a very lucrative business. Players have become instant brands so this will generate a lot of revenue!

This will add to our other sponsors like Samsung and Singha Beer, which we're already getting a lot of revenue from already, not to mention we're re-couping quickly some of the £50m we bought on Torres by shirt sales alone.
