Moving to England

Well the topics name gave you most of the info needed,but i want to know what does it require to move to England to live there/work etc.I already asked Gianfranco_Z for the answers but he is a clueless little tard so i hope to find someone with more knowledge about it.Every answer will be very useful and i hope you guys can help me out.

It's a big step to move to England mate!

First of all, there's the obvious stuff - you'll need your visa, and during that time you have to find yourself permanent residence and work, otherwise you're on the first plane back to Sarajevo. Its pretty easy to find part-time or full-time work because of the millions (literally, there are millions) of recruitment agencies that have companies literally desperate for people to work for them.

As to where you'd want to move. England is still feeling the effects of the 08/09/10 financial crisis, so unemployment is still fairly high and linked with residence, house prices fell dramatically. However, there is now more stability on the housing market and prises are literally just starting to go up, so moving in the next few months would be best... although it depends when you're moving of course. Its all pretty expensive, though, but you'll find that like in most countries, if you live in a city it's far more expensive than living rurally. I'd recommend living in a town, and the best place for house prices would be somewhere in the Midlands.

I am here for 3 months mate! But i am staying close to the bridge. I am paying 400 quid per week which is a killer but i wanted to be in the city. Its fairly small but you cannot expect much around this area unless you want to be spending 1000 pound a week.

If i were you i would be ringing working agenicies before you come as they will give you an interview for jobs over the phone. They did this with my cousin who is coming here at the start of april for a year. They gave her the job with a phone interview which is pretty good!

Food is decently priced as well if you do it at something like Tescos or Sansburys. I did my shopping online the other day and again it was a lot cheaper i thought but maybe that because i am in London.

I don't mean to offend any Englishmen out there, but does England suffer from racism? I have also been looking into moving to England, and read that racism is still prevalent (due to large number of immigrants, no civil rights movement, etc). Are Americans treated rudely? Moving to a new country is a very scary part of someone's life, and I'm still on edge about if I want to do it!

Hmm.. In London there's not so much, my background is Indian so I'm obviously brown. I can count the number on 1 hand in 17 (nearly 18) years of living hear that I've had a racist remark said against me. I don't know about everywhere else, but London is quite diverse so the chances of you being treated in a different way is quite slim. That being said, wherever you go, you always find that bunch of ignorant twats, the key is to be the bigger man

Kieran, that is definitely an artifact of where you live. I have lived all over the US and I have to say if you live south of the Mason Dixon and East of the Mississippi then racism is worse than other places. Northern states aren't as bad (not saying you won't in counter it) but I think they've been a melting pot a lot longer than the south. I live outside of Memphis and I never thought about a person's skin color or ethnicity as anything other than interesting until I moved here. In fact, the first time my child asked me about skin color, I explained it to him saying that it was just like hair or eye color, some people have one color and others another, but we are all the same. Then I moved here! I went to a park with my daughter who was about 4 at the time and was literal scared to the bone by the interest a group of African American boys (of the same age) took in her and her blond hair and blue eyes. By the same token their chaperones told me they were amazed I didn't pack up and leave as soon as they arrived. I have also learned that "yes, ma'm" can be an insult if they say it the right way!

I don't think racism is particularly prevalent in the UK compared to other places in the world. London's incredibly multi-cultural (along with many other cities), but there is, as with anywhere, some racism.
