Former Rangers, Chelsea and Denmark forward Brian Laudrup has revealed he is undergoing treatment for cancer.

The 41-year-old, who enjoyed a highly successful spell with Rangers from 1994-98 during which time he won three league titles, has been diagnosed with a mild form of lymphoma.

"I am obviously shocked by the diagnosis, but also know that there is now a tough battle ahead of me - a battle I will win," Laudrup told TV3, where he works as a commentator.

"Fortunately, I have had very optimistic reports from doctors to support me."

The former Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Chelsea and Ajax star added: "I now want to use my energy to get over the shock and take time with my family and those closest to me, so together we can move forward after this diagnosis."

Laudrup scored 21 goals in 82 matches for Denmark and helped his country to European Championship glory in 1992. He was named Danish player of the year on four occasions.

I wasn't fortunate enough to watch him play, but I've heard that he was an extremely good player. Regardless, cancer is a terrible illness and I hope he gets well soon ...

Hope he makes a full recovery.

Was an excellent player on his day, he showed glimpses of this while with us, for example I remember the Super Cup final vs Real Madrid, he came off the bench and instantly skipped past Roberto Carlos (the best LB in the world at the time) as if he wasnt there.

Get well soon.

well..i`ll be honest and say he pissed me off a bit when he was with us,well not so much when he was with us,him and Flo were brilliant in an epic 4-3 win in a midweek game at Ewood Park.etc..and he won us the away game in Copenhagen..i used to love him as a player..(tho not as much as his older brother Micheal) it was just the statement that he made when he left, that he was homesick..(he had lived outside of Denmark since he was 19) so they cancelled his contract for him, then shortly after returning to Denmark he ended up playing in Holland.

however i`m not a heartless bastard, so i`ll bury that hatchet now.

glad to hear its not the bad lymphoma..cause with the bad one he would have had no chance..but i know someone whose has the milder version and although he has spells where he looks frail and about to die, he has got better..and is still alive 18 years after first being diagnosed with it.

good luck Brian.
