They do matter on a laptop!Buy the 128GB and get a 1-2 TB external drive with Thunderbolt later. Also, you honestly dont need to go crazy on the processor... Steve 10,227
Get an Alienware like myself! If you want a macbook pro with an ssd you can either get them to factory build one for you with it or do what I did. Remove the dvd drive out of it and get a device called a omni bay in which you can insert another hard drive. That's where I put my SSD and yeah I was running a 7200rpm HDD and a Intel SSD. Made it super quick have two good hard drives but if you want to game i would forget about it. Also if you're doing programming check with your uni what you can and can't use as I know for my course I couldn't really use my mac and it was not transferable for programming and it fucked everything up. Id splash for a drive like that, although 128 wouldnt be enough for me

Alienware is eqaul if not more overpriced than Apple! Also I don't need something as fuck off powerful as an Alienware. I've my desktop for that. I hate gaming on Laptops. It is the fatest available....I know it is the main part, but every component talks with each other in a computer. It doesnt matter that you have i7 if you are running a 5400rpm and a 'shit' GPU with it. If I were you and I had to choose between SSD or Better CPU, I would go with SSD hands down. Also I agree so do I and the only reason I got an alienware is because I might be heading back overseas and I don't want to leave behind my gaming haha. I have used it once for gaming since I got it but I am glad I have the option to do so. Spike

I would prefer under 1500. It's not that I can't afford it, I just need to be a savvy consumer.I was thinking a "13 with a 128GB SSD whilst just using a portable HDD.I'm only first year at Uni and we have been mostly using Python and whatnot (the tutor uses a Mac). Even if I can't use my laptop, I always have my PC at home.As a Uni student won't Apple give me a discount? Stingray and Rmpr

Ankit 3,176
Here is my dilmma. I'm an IT student so I do a lot scripting and whatnot and software development/engineering is probably my aim as a tecnhical field. I have a high end desktop PC at my home and it is more than powerful enough to play most video games on max settings, etc. However, I can't lugg that thing around with me at the University, so I need to buy a laptop. I am wondering what is better for my needs? Mac or Windows? I am very interested in buying a Mac because it looks much easier to do basic scripting and word documents on. What should I aim for?http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?afid=p219|GOAU&cid=AOS-AU-KWG-PLAWhat exactly are your needs? If you just need a computer to perform basic functions like Web surfing or word processing, it might be hard to justify buying a Mac. There are plenty of PC choices out there that are less expensive. The relative value of a Mac or PC really depends on the consumer's needs. For many, software development has to be done in a powerful desktop machine, and that might be true if what you are developing requires it. However, if you are a software developer building web apps or phone apps then you don’t really need that much hardware power. Macs do seem popular with the trendy people, but I don't think they are appropriate for everybody. For example, AutoCAD doesn't run on a Mac, so if you were going to do engineering or drafting or any other program that included the use of AutoCAD, I say go with a PC. And remember, you’ll probably end up using the laptop for things other than software development, you should also consider getting a laptop that you’ll enjoy even when not coding, and more importantly, a laptop with a great keyboard, you’ll do a lot of typing!
