In the light of Mikels tackle last night who do people think has been footballs hardest over the years ?

There are the obvious candidates from yesteryear such as Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris, Norman Hunter and Dave Mackay, and looking at some of those old games theres no way players would get away with those antics now. More recent examples of pure insanity like , Vinnie Jones, Terry Butcher and even Robbie Savage also spring to mind. JT has got to be up there as well, but for me for pure mentalism it'd be Roy Keane.

Mikel is just too dirty for comfort,he tackles all the time without real need.Carvalho tackels hard aswell but he's tackles are mostly clean (except for a few).JT tackles hard aswell but its mostly brave tackles than hard.I belive in the future Alex will be one of our toughest players he is big strong and few player have the bravery to collide with him.Almost forgot Joe Cole tackles dirty too but he is no way near John Obi Mikel.

Graham Souness in his day could give as good as he got if not more. Dennis Wise although not dirty was a hard man on the field and wouldn't let anyone get away with anything. But I think in terms of real hard nuts you have mentioned the three obvious ones for me Greg. You mention Lily Savage, but I honestly think he would have shat himself if he saw Chopper bareing down on him. If you watch some of the Blackburn replays Savage bottles out of tackles with real hard men like JT week in and week out.

Lily Savge lol. Another one I thought of was Duncan Ferguson. That burglar must have been the unluckiest ever when in Fergusons house, he roughed him up a bit, and sat on him for half an hour till the cops arrived

Dont think it was an elbow or Paul McStay....It was a definate head butt against John McStay of Raith rovers.

Souness I can remember on his debut as Rangers player manager getting sent off for a wild tackle on some Hibs player almost cutting him in half
