Chelsea Update On Goalkeeper Injuries

Chelsea's official website has released an inconclusive but promising statement regarding injuries to first team goalkeepers Petr Cech ahd Carlo Cudicini...

During yesterday's Super Sunday clash with Blackburn Chelsea's Petr Cech (pictured) left the field in some discomfort as Hilario took his place between the sticks.

Usual deputy Carlo Cudicini was already unavailable due to a previous injury, and though Hilario's performance was more than adequate, the Blues will be nonetheless concerned with their growing injury list.

The severity of the injury was unknown, and after the match manager Avram Grant insisted nothing would be known until scans were taken.

Chelsea's official website just now released a statement regarding the results of the scans.

"Scans today have shown bruising around Petr's hip and side. We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days and hope to have him back playing as soon as possible," it said.

"Carlo Cudicini also continues to make progress from his rib injury and, again, we hope to make him available as soon as possible."

Though no timeframe is given, the fact there is only bruising suggests that the Czech international may only miss one game at the most, which will come as a relief to the fans who missed his presence so much during last year's desparing title chase.

It is also likely Cudicini will return to action within the next week or so.
