the wes 7,212
end of the day lampard can play in the diamond midfield that's my point view Edited August 23, 2009 by the wes
Ollie 4,400
Ballack is primarily a holding midfielder. Its best with Joe cole on the tip, Essien and Lampard in the middle with Ballack defensive imo. But anyone can go anywhere pretty much

He is best at the top.
BlueLion. 21,491
Obviously he's an attacking midfielder, but he's being played as a holding player by Carlo and also by Guus last term, to reasonable success, may I add.
Ollie 4,400
Ballack plays the holding role for Germany and did so in the 2006 world cup, i aint smoking nout, i just know stuff. He may have started out as an attacking midfielder but for munich he played a lot deeper and in the defensive role for Germany in the 2006 world cup he was outstanding. When lampard was injured in the 07/08 season for a long spell, who replaced him and banged in a few goals in quick succession? Was michael Essien. He has the attacking intent that Ballack doesn't have anymore. Edited August 24, 2009 by OllieCFC

BlueLion. 21,491
Ballack has been an EXCELLENT signing. 22 goals in 114 appearances is an excellent ratio for any player, that's a goal every five games or so.

He is a fantastic player, promised the rest of his career to Chelsea quite a long time ago (unlike a few of our other great players!), he scores important goals (2 against Utd, for instance) and he dominates the opposition (whoever it is) with ease. No one gets the better of Ballack. And he was a free transfer And as for him being "primarily a holding midfielder" because he has played that role a few times in the past, he is still primarily an attacking midfielder, wherever he is played. But I would disagree that he is ever a holding midfielder because although he may play deeper he never holds a defensive position.
