Yeah, well, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the award. I'm saying these awards don't mean a great deal if he doesn't play well for us. Even after sufficient time to adapt to the team.

I won't get too excited until he proves himself. It'll just make me disappointed if he doesn't immediately play well in his first season.

I think Zhirkov will do quietly well in his first season. He has no pressure on him; he isn't expected to perform because this transfer is relatively low key - in comparison to £80 million that Real Madrid spent on Ronaldo, £18 million is a small sum. I'm quite excited by his arrival and can't wait to see him play.

The former CSKA Moscow star arrived at Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer after signing a three-year contract with last season's FA Cup winners.

But Zhirkov is not able to play during Chelsea's current pre-season tour of the USA because he has yet to be granted international clearance.

Ancelotti told Chelsea's official website: "For Yuri Zhirkov is it not possible to put him in because we have to wait for his work permit.

"He is working with the team on tour and is a very good player, but has a little problem with the language."
