Following media reports claiming threats have been made against the referee of last night's game, Chelsea Football Club would like to make clear that it condemns any form of threat against players, officials or supporters. If provided with proper evidence Chelsea will take the strongest action against any season ticket holders or members who have participated in this activity.

Everybody connected with Chelsea is very disappointed with the events of last night.

However we would stress that we have received no evidence that Chelsea fans are involved in any of the alleged threats reported.

As a result of these reports we have also been in contact with the police who likewise had not received any complaints.

Already reports of threats. However these "death threats" ammount to posters on the official site and CFCnet saying things like "i wanna kill that b**tard", "i am gonna hunt him down". Also a facebook group about wanting to kill him......

All whipped up by the media to stir things up, and also Graham Poll making up stories he can't possibly know about the ref being moved hotels by the Police and "smuggled" out of the country.....

The statement is a little dissapointing, responding to such garbage. I would say that the fact that the club have released THIS statement means that once again we are going to bend over and take any punishment from UEFA and carry on as normal....

José Bosingwa has retracted some of his comments made after last night's Champions League draw with Barcelona. In the heat of the moment, the 25-year-old Portuguese full-back made some comments about referee Tom Henning Øvrebø that he has since had time to consider, and said:

'We were all very disappointed and frustrated after the game, but I regret describing the referee as a thief. Having had some time to reflect I would like to withdraw those comments.'

Bosingwa, along with his team-mates will now turn his attention to Sunday's visit to Arsenal in the Premier League after two impressive displays against the Catalonian side.

Didier Drogba has asked for this statement to be released on his behalf.

'I was very upset at what happened during the game, but having seen the pictures on TV I accept that I overreacted.

'I also fully accept that the language I used did not set a good example for those watching at home, especially children. I regret that in the heat of the moment I let out my incredible frustration and disappointment in this way, and for that I apologise.'

Chelsea Football Club has issued the following after Didier Drogba's statement:

'Chelsea welcomes Didier's statement today which was made honestly and after reflection. We are all acutely aware of the responsibilities that lie with both the club and its players towards setting a good example as role models.

'While it is clear that some of the events last night were regrettable, they occurred only because of the high emotions and frustrations which arose from the disappointment of a controversial defeat in such an important game.

'We made representations to UEFA immediately after the game and we await their comments following a review of the match officials' report.'
