Unhappy Hoops . . some Celtic fans will give out leaflets attacking chairman John Reid and calling for Poppy Day to be snubbed

A HARDCORE group of Celtic fans are plotting to disrupt a poppy day event at Parkhead.

They will SHUN a minute’s silence for war dead — then WALK OUT of the stadium.

The protest comes after Celtic agreed, like all other SPL clubs, to wear poppies on their jerseys this weekend.

That angered supporters group the Green Brigade, which is spearheading the planned action at Saturday’s game with Motherwell.

They are backed by Cairde Na hÉireann — a sister group of Sinn Fein — and TAL fanzine, which said: “We will be protesting against this pro-imperialist nonsense.”

They’ll hand out leaflets showing grieving Iraqi civilians and calling Hoops chairman John Reid — the former Defence Secretary — a WAR CRIMINAL.

And the Association of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs said yesterday it should’ve been consulted over the poppy decision.

A club spokesman said: “We expect any protest to be inconsequential.”

I expected as much.

Celtic fans were quick to jump up in arms over Rangers singing the "famine song" which "apparently" offended them as it mocked the death of those who died in the Irish potato famine.

Now let me ask you this.....What exactly are they doing now to the tens of thousands of Irish soldiers who fought and died in both world wars, those who died in Iraq/Afghanastan. Not to mention Scottish soldiers (catholic) who died in the same wars. Is this not making a mockery of their deaths?

Hypocritical isnt the word.

The poppy isnt a British symbol. It originated in America. Its a symbol of remembrance of the dead who died in battle recognised around the world. So they're not sticking two fingers up at the British (which is all their lot seem interested in atm), they're sticking your fingers up at every nation who had men/women who gave their lives so that they can lead their self indulgent hypocritical lifestyles.

SHAME ON YOU.

I found it ironic that Arsenal worse poppy's on their shirts today, yet only fielded one English player and yet, Manchester United, who fielded the England vice-captain and quite a few other British players lacked the poppy.

Hopefully Chelsea will wear one.
