Paulo Ferreira

Not really. Ferreira is hardly integral to the squad and we could cope without him with what we have.

tbh I would rather have Ferreira at the club than people like Belletti. People have said earlier in this thread Ferreira is more defensive. I agree with them

Stop being so fuckin negative for fuck sake... "not good enough", "could be better" ... he's a good player, loyal and doesn't bitch. What else do you want ?

-EDIT-

The loyal part is still under some doubt .. lala

I never said Ferreira is a bad player. But with the amount of right-backs we have, losing one is not a problem.

the amount of right-backs = 3 ... 2 would already be "little" or "normal" ... Bella, Jose and Paulo ... With the shortage in the middle park Belletti was called up, leaving only 2 possibilities on the right. As a manager I would love the choice, defensive or attacking player. If it was between Belletti and Ferreira, I'd choose Ferra because Bosingwa is already attack-minded and so is Bella.

but yeah okay no hard feelings, I just get a bit upset when some people get carried away judging players and not giving credit. Ferra was integral in the first season... he has fallen a bit short in the last few seasons, but he was still an integral part in the most succesful squad of the club's history.

3 right-backs is more than necessary. But we have Ivanovic also. So that's 4. And 2 options even after one is moved elsewhere is fine.

We don't need 3 players for every position.

I don't think Ferreira was ever integral to our team. He's a good player, but not outstanding. We have been trying to improve on the right-back position since a year after we got him, which tells it's own story.

Could be... I just hope we won't be seeing Essien back at RB though.

/edit

integral in the sense of, if we hadn't had him in the first season, what would have we done :P

We shouldn't... but as long as he wants to play for us and has quality to do it, why not. Better than having Cristiano Analdo at ManU. Again, if anybody is to leave from the right side, I would pick Bella.. because of his age mostly (hey, Ferreira doesn't blossom anymore either... so if you ask me, get them both out and get some Dani Alves in or stick with Ivanovic... but I tend to be happy with what we got)

A matter of finance perhaps?

I can see your point about keeping a more defensively minded right-back, but we may just not have received offers for Juliano whereas we did Paulo, so Paulo would be the one to go. Of course, maybe the club really were just keeping two attack minded right-backs instead. Perhaps that is what Scolari wants. We are definitely using wingbacks with our current formation rather than full backs. Everytime we get the ball, Ashley and Jose are level with the midfield.

I actually don't think we have three right backs. I'd say we have two wing backs and one right backs; because Belletti and Boz aren't the best at defending, to put it nicely, however our system does utilise full-backs, when Paulo is a solid defender who always is willing to answer the call. Can't ask for more.

Well we actually have four players who can play at right back, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Belletti and Ivanovic. Plus then Essien if we absolutely desperate. Would rather Belletti went, we already have an attacking right back in Bosingwa and Paolo is more versatile, can play right or left, Ivanovic is dying to play so we should have just sold or loaned out Belletti cos he really is a surplus

  • 4 months later...

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is eyeing across town to boost his fullback options.

The Daily Mail says Redknapp remains on the lookout for a right back, having failed to sign former Liverpool defender Steve Finnan on loan from Spanish side Espanyol.

The Spurs manager is keen on Chelsea's Paulo Ferreira, who has slipped behind Jose Bosingwa in the Stamford Bridge pecking order after signing a five-year deal only 12 months ago.
