The US is going to back Georgia -they were months away from being a full fledged NATO member -and Russia is going to hammer Georgia for the same reason.

Its been simmering for about two years between Putin and Georgia -if it had happened when Georgia was in NATO the West would have been obliged to defend them -cue World carnage....

Maybe. Think I get the gist of what Truemans saying. You're right Georgia had a go at the Ossetians who have always traditionally aligned themselves with Moscow, so naturally Russia stepped in.

I'm not making judgement here, just pointing out the danger of escalation had Bushs friend Georgia actually been in NATO. Thankfully Russia is now making noises about ceasing all hostilities.

The boys you that?Russia did not hit upon attack in Georgia ,this Georgia as attack in South Osetiyu, and georgian president Saakashvili in this guilty, which licks one place a Bush..

ITs True that Georgia initiated the agression. But they arent that silly to take on a nation like Russia all by themselves for no reason, are they?

Russia has been interfering alot in Georgia for a while now. Stories about Russia trying to annex a part of Georgian territory have been well known across the world. Russia also went to an extent to offering russian passports to people in the annexed land.

Inshort, Kremlin's plan was to instigate Georgia to an extent that Georgia enters into a war and then Russia can obliterate the nation in a war. More so cus Georgia is the only nation from the former Soviet Union which incorporates the Policies of the United States.

I ain't going to lick anyones arse here, I just think its all fucked up that another war is looming. Bush should and will have to keep his fucking warmongering self out of this one. Hopefully Prime minister charisma will not be like USA puppet Blair and go down on Bush everytime he calls. So our best bet is stay the fuck away from anything that isn't our business, including Afgahnistan.

I am sick of reading headlines

"Last night another Soldier"

(Should mean something to some of the older ex Shed end and Angelic Upstarts fans on here.)

Agreed!!!

Its High time Britain stops acting like a puppet.

I dont think the US would even have the balls to go all alone and wage a war on a country. The last time they did, they got battered in the South East Asian region of Vietnam.

After that, be it the invasion of Afghanistan or the two wars on Iraq. They have been backed by the Brits on each occasion.

Its understandable that countries like South Korea, Australia, UK, gain alot from US in terms of Trade and other resources. But to bend over everytime the US wants you to is pissing off. Specially when it comes to disturbing the Global Harmony.

Georgia kicked things off, then Russia came in to protect it's citizens, and quite rightly so. Then Georgia goes crying to NATO or UN 'whatever' calling for a ceasefire. Bit like going into woolworths, nicking loads of pick and mix, getting caught out and saying in court can we just call all this off.

Russia have gone in heavy handed, perhaps some may say too heavy handed, but then IMO can you ever go in too heavy handed when you're at war and protecting your own people? No!

The Yanks as always think they are the sole power of the Universe and instead of trying to cool things by taking the stance of, 'very good Russia, you've made your point, now call it a day' they instead almost square up to them talking along the lines of Russia's actions will not be left unanswered. Well done, like that's going to stop things over there, and hey lets start a cold war, or have the US and Russia firing nukes at each other. Why is that a country with so much power is so fooking stupid???

Your Wrong!!

Georgia is basically the only country of the former Soviet Union that is Pro Western (United States). And a small part of Georgia which is adjacent to Russia is Pro Russia. Russia has been supporting these pro Russians people and are trying to merge that "PRO RUSSIAN LAND OF GEORGIA TO RUSSIA" which Georgia have every right on this world to get Pissed off at. Hence Georgia finally had enough and waged a war to push back the Russian infiltration in the land of Georgia exactly what Russia would have wanted.

A Reason to attack Georgia and capture the Pro Russian Land.

How am I wrong? Yes there is more than meets the eye with this, but to put things in perspective, who kicked off the hostilities and started the warfare? Georgia. What happens when you play with fire, or in this case pick a fight with one of the worlds super powers in Russia? You get burnt, or destroyed.

As you point out it's not as simple as black & white, but everything I said is right, and what Georgia should have done was approach nato/un for their help as opposed to starting a fight and complaining when there is a big reaction

Its all kicking off again news reports are saying.

Theres ethnic differences that just wont go away and have been smouldering on and off for centuries.

Ossetian villages exist side by side with Georgian villages. They now have separate gas and electricity networks, and fucking hate each other.

They need to organise a football friendly or something.....
