Filipe Luís

We are playing hardball with atletico which might not be that good. When we will look for their players like Saul, Vietto, Oliver, Koke etc they will squeeze every cent from us.

Also, this Luis is not good enough defender is bs. He might not have best season, but I believe that was because he was adapting to PL and didnt get regular play time to catch form.

He played for most similar team to us, team that priority is to defend and counter. Team where defenders were always under pressure. And he did brilliantly. Many said he was on par as best defender along with Godin. Anyway he certainly isnt defensive liability. He is still quick enough and agressive to cover for Terry, but he is also great at overlaping, very helpful for Hazard.

Even Dunga picked him ahead of Marcelo because Luis is more reliable in defense.

He was certainly best allround Lb of 2013/14 season, not sure why didnt Mou get the best of him. Maybe he doesnt suit PL, but I think he would catch up if given week in week out games. For CL he would be perfect.

To say at last, he is brilliant backup and shouldnt be sold.

we are not asking for 30mil pounds. we are simply asking for exactly what we paid just one season ago. luis has not regressed. he just simply is not the player we want for our needs. we need a LB who can simply tuck in with JT and not expose JT's pace. also having a good defensive LB gives hazard more freedom.

even if luis is a good defender, azpi is a better defender, infact a much better defender.

getting picked ahead of marcelo for "defence" should not be much of an argument.

he was in 13/14 for ATM. our needs our different. koke is brilliant defensively. we dont want hazard to do the bull work that koke does, we have willian for that.

he does not want to be a backup. he is 29 and would probably lose a lot of value when he turns the dreaded 30. his role in the squad can be taken on by a much cheaper alternative.

First, they'd do that either way. That's how they operate these days and they aren't fools to have release causes so low like Diego's anymore. All their new contracts have astronomical release causes. Second, who's to say we'll ever be interested in any of those players. Right now, if we can take that Rob guy's word, we aren't interested in any of their players... which could be a lie (not by the Rob guy) and we're only tempting them enough to offer the player we really want. I really don't have a clue of who we'll be landing this summer in addition to Falcao and Begovic... which isn't that much exciting. I wanted only a couple of signings, but to address areas we need, such as a backup for Cesc and a better RW (because I have hopes Zouma will displace Cahill from the team), if we're only signing replacements for the guys who left, then it would have been a counterproductive transfer window as both players - Falcao and Begovic are worse than DD and Petr (and someone being worse than DD currently says a lot about how bad Falcao actually is), and that's not even considering Remy may also leave because of the Falcao deal.

It feels like we've been regressing in terms of transfers. Letting Schurrle go, bringing Cuadrado, signing those guys. Where's the sharp Chelsea of the last two summer windows?

Dont worry, we will make some more transfers. I do agree Falcao is pointless, but Begovic is probably best backup GK we could find right now.

Key right now is to bring RW because Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Cuadrado is little short for three spots, and a versatile CM to cover for Cesc would be great aswell. If Mikel or Luis leave, we will definately find replacements for them aswell. Summer window only just started and it looks Mou will be buying quantity rather quality, so its best to wait on proper targets and buy them when available. But IMO it would improve us alot if we brough another top CM to play 4:3:3 or top RW, but there are apart from Turan, Vidal almost none avaliable.

Simeone spoke out over reports he would look to re-sign the full-back, saying he is willing to make a move this summer.

"He's a player we're very fond of and he knows us well and gave so much to the team," Simeone said.

"I hope this one comes off."

I'm not normally a worrier and usually well laid back about transfer season but mate I cant help being a tad shakey about this season.

Its not like theres limitless time. Bloomin US thing is in less than 3 weeks.

I can just see us last day panic buying after selling players from our already very small squad.

If I was in charge of our transfers I'm sure I would have laid all the groundwork well before silly season started ready to just sign papers. I know its not as easy as that but surely theres gotta be plans pre made not just a list of people we are looking at..

We will bring what we want, Im sure Mou will make sure everything goes by plan. Only problem will be if some of players he looks to keep will suddenly want to move week before deadline, ie Mikel, Cuadrado, etc...But there is no possibility you know that two months earlier.

Re. Filipe's future, I wrote this on why he has to leave:

http://www.umaxit.com/index.php/columns/filipe-luis-should-leave-chelsea-for-the-good-of-his-own-career

He's proven to be pretty solid for Brazil, whether Dunga hangs around or not, I'm not sure, but a safer option than Marcelo. I always thought he'd bring out an extra 5% in Hazard, as Azpilicueta doesn't help him with any overlaps or combinations, but it seems Jose isn't that bothered with his full-backs pushing on.

If we can get £14m for him, that'd be remarkable business. Seems crazy how little opportunity he was afforded.

This signing lacked logic in its beginning and lacks even more so now. Shame, Luis is actually a talented full-back and should really be playing with Cesar at RB. I guess this means Ivanovic will continue as our #1 RB.

Jose lacked logic making Ivan the undisputed n1 rb instead of Dave.

Thus, the signing of Filipe Luis lacked logic entirely.

Even if he intended to make Azpilicueta his undisputed left-back, at least buy an Atletico right-back ffs

really? i think that move was very good. azpi is a much much better defender than luis.

we needed someone to cover for hazard and also for JT - hence azpi as a LB.

iva is a brilliant defender. but he has been given a free role. when we have defended (arsenal and united), iva has been absolutely brilliant. so out of the 3 FBs, we have on our payrole, iva as RB and azpi as a LB gave us the most balance.
