edenhazard17 281
Ahh haha, you know even some solo artists. Kpop and Kdrama is very big in indonesia I heard from my friends there. I think one of my Indonesian friend knows more than me! I honestly only really like IU Yes, it is pretty famous in here, especially the Kdrama. Also it was great some Kpop star starting to have a tour in here recently.Lol. I like IU's "Good day" and "Boo". Also she start acting in one of Kdrama, right? Surely she will be more famous than ever.
BluesChick 1,260
We have a station that does a k-pop karaoke hour and Nick and Cartoon Network both play K-pop and J-Pop between shows. (Probably some other SEA pop too like Malay and Filipino... Neither language is good for pop music to my old time American/English rock loving ears!) my kids have a lot of Korean friends so they actually recognize the songs! Beepu 1,714
Yes, both of you are guilty. k-pop is my guilty pleasure. To be completely honest, K-Pop is more of a big deal in countries like indonesia, malaysia, etc compared to Korea itself, for Koreans its just normal and no big deal. Earlier this year there was a Korea day at the city im at in New Zealand and they had a kpop contest. Pretty much all who joined were non koreans, and everyone who were yelling and being loud were non koreans, all the koreans were just watching. I dont know for me personally its kind a weird to see them like that and hmmm how do you say.. 'norak'??? haha i cant remember.Of course if there are concerts and all that koreans also scream and shout but its a concert.I do like Korean music but I think some foreign fans are really fanatics and obsessed. Better for the Halyu wave i suppose.

Better for the Halyu wave i suppose. That is very true, .In my opinion, most ot the fans in Asia like kpop mainly because of their "good looking" appearance rather than the song and voice quality itself. Only a few peoples who really enjoy listening quality kpop songs regardless the appearance of the singers looks like, old or young. So, the situation and condition you described is perfectly fits in, because most of them yelling and being loud mainly because of their "good looking" appearance, wherever they might be (in a concert, mall or even on the street). And the funny things is that, some of them are doing that even they're not actually knowing the name of the artist/singers, leave alone their songs, at all!! In relation with their appearance, me too don't really like the male singers appearance. Yeah you're right it is "norak" back then, but it is more popular to say it "lebay" now which in English mostly described as a "greatly exaggerated behaviour or appearance". But leave alone the male singers, I love all the female singers! lol . So, basically it is most likely because of interest in the opposite gender here.To be honest, at first, I like kpop too because of all the pretty girls there. But as time goes by, I starting to learned and recognized the quality voice and songs outhere little by little. Then I found out about a singers like howl, wheesung, lee seung chul, and 2NE1 whom their appearance might not their strongest point. So, I could say that my kpop fans level has grown up now, lol. Yeah I agree, most fans dont actually understand what their singing about haha. But im glad k-pop is popular. And if im honest again, most kpop 'idols' are not good singers. When they perform, they rely heavily on their background music(pre recorded singing, etc) and most of them are not really singers of high standards that can reach high notes or have decent singing techniques that is required of a professional singers. Head someone defending this fact saying that they are 'entertainers' I guess if you look it that way its a fair argument. But the actual talented singers are usually solo artists that doesnt use that much sex appeal. There are some very talented singers in groups too, but usually the rest of the group are either dancers, rappers, and visuals. I think thats why im such a big fan of IU, she sounds as good live as in the recordings.
Spike 12,049
I like the videos because of the cosmetic surgey craze in South Korea all the women look great and westernised therefore it doesn't threaten me. Either that or I just have really bad yellow fever.

That's why I prefer to watch their MV more rather than their live performance / concert.Agree that the solo artist looks like more talented there. Shame, they're less popular outside Korea, I think. How about in Korea there? solo or group are more popular? Now we're back to IU, lol.
