Which subjects to take for graduation exam?

I want to go medical uni after high school and they take in count:

1. final mark of two last years in high-school (20%)

2. average marks of exams (native language, english, maths, and two subjects you can choose) (35%)

3. mark of 1 scientific subject, maths and english (biology/chemistry/physics) (45%)

So I can choose two subjects, but I don't know what to do. I'm sure I will choose chemistry. But for another subject I really don't know. If I choose another scientific subject the better mark will count (if I **** up one subject, I still have chance at another subject). But I'm not so good at biology and physics.

If I choose geography (my favorite subject), I'm sure I will get highest mark at exam, but it won't really count (only in 2. point - averages) for uni. And then I won't have any backup, if I **** up chemistry.

I'm in big dilemma, please help.

Isn't Biology useful for Medical? Maybe it will help you in the long run

Of course it is. I'm not overreacting (I never do), but my biology teacher really dislikes me and I can barely stand her too.

Physics is quite hard for me (because I don't do homeworks) and I've 3.5/5 mark there. Chemistry is really the easiest science subject for me.

Let's put it this way: Biology is one of the most important subjects or even the most important one at first when you go to med.school. Physics won't help you much, just general knowledge. So being good/able to reach a certain level in chemistry and biology is a must, because if you will find it hard to study for high-school exams, you will be in a very big trouble with medical exams and drop out. Choose wisely and remember that you'll be sacrificing your time and health for the good of other people's time and health whether it will be while studying or already working.

Been studying nearly 12h/day for couple of weekends now, can see light in the end of the tunnel though!

I see where you're coming from. But you must know that high school I go to, is the hardest and most prestige in the whole country. It's really impossible to get here and when you are here you get tests from graduations in 1st year. Our school always is at top with most succesfull students on graduation exams, because we get those tests for 4 year.

And our teachers always say to us that the mark we have in school will be higher by 1 or 2 on graduation.

Holy shit, me and bro are studying for a med and law degree, wish we could study that much, too many distractions!

At OP, I agree with what most people have said Biology's probably to must useful. But you don't have to do it if you don't want to, some of the syllabus was a drag from what I remember, stuff like Ecology (Although the syllabus is different for different countries, its likely to be similar content-wise)...Good luck.

It depends on how much of a disadvantage it is to go to Med school without taking Biology. If it's manageable then taking some other subject but if it's not then take Biology. Ask a senior or someone in Med.School about this before deciding

In India, you cannot take Medical without taking Biology before University but there are those who've said that you can make it up in Med School as Biology is just mugging up a bunch of stuff and remembering them

It was actually same for me, but don't take stuff for granted. The second you start to assume, it will go bad. As they say - assumption is mother of all fuck-ups. Plus what I've seen is that people who come from elite schools tend not to do any better than others, because you will be going to study in a faculty where being smart isn't enough - you need to have heart for what you will be doing, this sort of interest and self discipline. Judging from your reply - you have an advantage over others, use it, but stay humble. Not everyone will have the opportunity to be so well prepared for something like this for various reasons. You will be working with 'normal' people day in day out and the moment you start to feel elitist or stuck-up, that's when you will make a bad name for yourself.

Good thing about all this is that you will start to see world around you differently. You don't look at human body the way you used to. Now I don't know how it is in Slovenia, but in the first year we had to cut open bodies and 'carve out' all the muscles, arteries, veins, nerves etc. So that's something different I think. You will get to know how human biological 'machinery' works, question all the articles about health etc. Though you don't have to be a M.D to do that. We have many INTELLIGENT people on this board, who you can ask for advice. @BluesChick - walking encyclopedia. Besides biology, she also happens to know everything. @dumps - very active in the Physical & Mental Health thread, knows a lot about biochemistry and is sceptical about ice-baths. I'm sure there are many more.

Btw - how's the competition for spots in the school you will be applying? In here it was 1 spot for 6 people. Taking into account all the exams, the average mark had to be like 87 out of 100 to get in, which is doable for ANYONE who wants this bad enough.
