What on earth is a 'Ghan'?

Another is to do an exchange program through Uni. I was thinking Montreal or somewhere.

it might not be there anymore, it was a luxury train (Like the orient express) you could take that crossed from the North to south going thru Alice Springs I believe. It may not even exist any more. My folks did it ages ago and I love their pictures from it. I may have remembered the name wrong or spelled it wrong too.

Adelaide to Darwin I imagine if it goes through Alice Springs. That's one long journey. Adealaide and Darwin are nice places, nothing much in the middle except red dirt and shrubs. Coober Pedy is pretty amzaing.

My favourite part of Australia is the Great Dividing Range and the coast line in south eastern Queensland, mainly because I'm used to the desert/arid environment and green trees and grass is a nice change. Though to be honest I've yet to see much of the country.

I think I'd go insane on the Ghan. I've spent many hours staring at the rural landscape of this country and lengthy train trip would be overkill.

I would skip the train trip if it meant I could see more of the country! I know I want to go down near Melbourne to see Steve and I have a friend who lives near Perth, so It will have to be a lengthy trip when we come to Australia.

I think Mandy Moore beat you to that in "A Walk To Remember" :P

This thread makes me feel like a total loser for not having any real dreams :lol:

Beat me or showed me how to do it :D Oh don't feel bad I'm sure you have things but you just haven't itemized them.

My very long list is getting shorter as we've done quite a lot in the last decade :)

Such as: camping along the Great Wall, Walking on the Great Wall, Visiting The Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, The Olympic Cube in Beijing, In Shanghai: Tianzifang, The Pearl Tower, Yuyuan, and much more, Went to Tokyo and Kyoto: visited temples, zen gardens, the home of the ninjas, and the oldest noodle house in Japan, went to Thailand (rode an elephant!), met an orangutan in Borneo, went to Romeo and Vatican City, visited Krakow, Poland and the religious sites nearby, visited London, Brussels, Ghent, Brugge, and Edinburgh, and went to the North Island of New Zealand.

A few on there still are:

  1. Finish seeing China: Xian, Guilin, Chengdu (Pandas), Shenzhen (visit Ryan); Yunnan, climb the stairs to the gate to heaven
  2. Be fluent in Chinese instead of being only knowing a little bit.
  3. Go to Tibet
  4. Go to Cambodia
  5. Go to Vietnam
  6. Go to the Bridge to see a Chelsea Match (close would be to see a game in Europe)
  7. Go to the Galapagos Islands
  8. Go to the Easter Islands
  9. Do a wine tour of Italy/Napa Valley/France/Australia/New Zealand
  10. Go to Australia :) And possibly ride the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin
  11. Visit friends in Germany and England
  12. Return to New Zealand to see the South Island
  13. See as many World Heritage Sites as I can
  14. Retire with my husband while we can still enjoy it, possibly to Malaysia
  15. visit my best friend when she goes home to Finland!
  16. See both my children graduate college :D and settle down with the love of their life (I know that is their choice but I still want to see it)
  17. and so much more!!!

Awesome list! And you had so much done already!!
