Pot 1 will consist of champions from the top seven European leagues (based on UEFA's country coefficient ranking IIRC) and the Champions League winner. And if I'm getting this right, the other three pots will have teams lined up based on their club coefficient ranking - in other words, it will be similar to how teams have been seeded into pot 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the past years.

What about EL winner?

The Europa League winner will head directly into the group stage if the team that win the Champions League have qualified for the competition via the league. Otherwise, they'll have to go through the play-off round - http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=2215121.html. They'll then be seeded according to their coefficient ranking.

Since we have Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid in the CL semis this season, it means the Europa League winner will go directly into the group stage as those four teams have qualified for next season's CL via the league.

On the other hand, if the Champions League winner is also the champions of one of the top seven European leagues, then the final spot in Pot 1 will go to the 8th highest ranked-country.

Champions League 2015/16: Possible opponents

With this season’s Champions League and the major domestic leagues in Europe having drawn to a conclusion, we can now look ahead to the 2015/16 competition, and the new seeding format for the draw…

The major change to the group-stage draw for next season’s tournament sees the champions of each of the seven top-ranked associations, as well as the current holders, placed together in Pot One.

Chelsea, after winning the Barclays Premier League title, will be joined in Pot One by Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven and Zenit St Petersburg, as well as Barcelona, who lifted the trophy on Saturday.

PSV Eindhoven have been placed in there due to the fact Barcelona won the tournament as well as La Liga, ensuring the champions of the eighth-ranked association, the Netherlands, moved into the top pot.

The fourth and final qualifying round in mid-to-late August includes some big names such as Manchester United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon, who we faced in the group stage of this season’s competition, who all need to overcome a two-legged tie in order to secure their place in the group stage.

The change to the format of the draw means there are teams who, under the previous regulations, would have found themselves in Pot One but are no longer afforded such luxury.

Real Madrid, Porto and Arsenal, who are all in Pot Two, fall into this category and could face a tougher group-stage draw than they might have expected in the past. Manchester United, meanwhile, will also be placed in Pot Two if they win their qualifier. The second pot is completed by Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, along with Bayer Leverkusen and Valencia if they are successful in their qualifying games.

Three teams we have met in the competition in recent times – Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray and Basel – will be in Pot Three (if Shakhtar and Basel win their qualifying matches), along with Europa League winners Sevilla.

Pot Four provides the possibility of meeting up with some familiar faces depending on which side we are drawn with. Ashley Cole’s Roma are one of the sides in the final pot, along with German club Wolfsburg, for whom former Chelsea wingers Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne now play.

If we are drawn against the other German side in Pot Four, Borussia Monchengladbach, Eden Hazard could face his brother, Thorgan.

While there are a number of teams in next season’s competition Chelsea fans will be familiar with, there are also sides who would represent fresh opposition in the Champions League, including Gent from Belgium, Salzburg from Austria and Viktoria Plzen, from Czech Republic, who played Manchester City in 2013.

These lists are only provisional with 10 of the teams needing to win qualifiers before they can take the place in the draw their UEFA ranking suggests. Should any be knocked out and replaced by clubs with lower ranking coefficients then this might mean other teams shift to a higher pot than those described here.

The draw for the group stage of the tournament takes place on 27 August. The final is in Milan on 28 May.

Ahead of last weekend's Champions League final in Berlin, a presentation was made to all 22 clubs who have won the competition to mark its 60th year, with our technical director Michael Emenalo collecting Chelsea's from UEFA president Michel Platini.

You might want to check their head-to-head record in Europe. Benitez is one of the few managers who has a decent record against Mourinho.

Old Benitez yes, but current Benitez against current Jose, no chance.

Benitez down the hill after Liverpool 'glory' days over. Meanwhile Jose did a tremendous job with Inter, Real and back at Chelsea. Jose has evolve, while Benitez has devolve since then.

I'm surprised if you think otherwise. Not every person develop to a better one along the time. Some gone backward.

It would be Chelsea v Real Madrid (not just Mourinho v Benitez) and that would not be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination.

Benitez has given an enough resources at Napoli and still even failed to qualify for CL is a disgrace. Showing the true low quality of him. Good players are not the most important factors and I believe there are some more examples. Good players and good manager that bring success.

There is a reason why Real fans freaking out when Benitez appointed.

Who do you want in this seasons group in Champions League? I definetly want Galatasaray or Fenerbahce if they can pass the play offs, so i can go the games in Istanbul.

And we're in the pot 1 but i think pot 2 is more dangerous in pot 1 because of the changes UEFA made this year.

What are your opinions ?
