This is creating a lost generation in this country and its so sad to see. Poverty will surge in this country and Crime will surge with it too, many young people will have the mentality of '' i have nothing to lose'' which is very dangerous. I was speaking to my mother yesterday who is an employer and she was telling me that a lot of her business associate's will not even consider a young person anymore. British youngsters are competing not only in the UK job market now but with the rest of Europe. We live in a European super economy now where skilled people from other parts of Europe can compete against you in your country. A huge amount of people in Europe can speak perfect English and the fact that English is such a widely spoken language hinders UK 16-24 year olds. I am not a right wing euro skeptic, i am actually pro Europe but i do see the point of many people in this country.

It will only get worse. Next 2-3 years in this country, at this rate, and we won't be a stone's throw away from Greece's situation.

I will admit that a lot of British people don't always do themselves justice, a lot of British youngsters think the world should be given to them on a plate. The fact that the vast majority of British people can't be bothered learning a new language makes it impossible for them to leave the country and compete for jobs in other industrialized nations. I have to admit though it is very hard for the young people of today, employers have given up on them because they have a certain stereotype in their heads. You have to compete to survive or you will rely on government.

To be honest though, when it comes to Government support. This country is very generous, council houses, the dole ect. It did kind of breed a culture that learned they could be reliable on the government to support them.

It's only now that people are feeling the blunt of what's happening in terms of making your own way. The university cuts & all. However, education standards in this country are now appalling. The numbers of kids going into private educations now, even if families can barely afford it, is ridiculous.

A university degree now, means almost nothing. Enterprise must be encouraged. My friend rejected an offer from Warwick University to start his own business and he's now making profit with a whole mass business plan drawn up.

It's a shame more kids aren't like that in this country atm.

Have you seen the movie Children of Men? The irony is that it is a British movie. As if the director foresaw the future of britain...

Gist:

The Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. In 2027, two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse. Illegal immigrants seek sanctuary in England, where the last functioning government imposes oppressive immigration laws on refugees. Clive Owen plays civil servant Theo Faron, who must help a pregnant West African refugee (Claire-Hope Ashitey) escape the chaos.

It shows britain in chaos where people have no jobs, theres poverty, etc etc and they fight each other and kill each other.

Yeah...As long as the world keeps buying American Dollar, American Dream exists. But everything has to end at some point. Like the Soviet Era. The Government is too strong too let the economy collapse.

So you are willing to live in a country that you don't like the government to take advantage of their economy.....

But to answer your question, the US economy is not any better than the economies in the Europe. The state of the US recession depends on which city and which state you are in. Some states are in very bad condition and have horribly unemployment rates. No country has been immune to the economic crisis that is going on.

I hate the US government but i would be willing to live in the US as the people seem really nice, judging from past visits. A lot of people who live in the US do not agree with your foreign policy.

I doubt any government is in alignment with all of it's citizens, but I think the US is probably in more of a crisis of confidence more than others at the moment. I certainly wouldn't say I agree with my government but I tend to be the corner skeptic when it comes to politics... any politics.

The US can be a wonderful place, but like I said above it depends completely where you are and what you want to do. So my advice to you is do your research and know where you would want to go and if you know people living there already, then I would look at the area they are living in. Make sure you look at the unemployment rates in those area and what you would need to do to get a work permit and for visas. All those things take time and money. I know this because I am living the other side of that as an American expat living in Asia.

I have family in Texas, i'm a fully qualified electrician but finding consistent work here in the UK for my sector is near impossible despite having some very strong leads in the industry because we simply don't build enough new infrastructure anymore. I've been working for my mother in her restaurant for a few years now and its just getting a little demoralizing because i'm a newly qualified electrician doing low skilled work in a restaurant. I thought that after i am fully qualified i would get work left right and center but even the people who promised me a placement are struggling severely. I am really thinking about leaving the country for pastures new !

I have a friend in the US that is an electrician and I will ask Bill about how things are going but I know that you will need to be careful to look at which states have trade unions because that will determine how easy work will be to find. Some Each state is different as to it's trade union laws and your need to belong to it in order to work. which is one of the dumber parts of the US laws if you ask me. Asia is where the growing market is
