Sometime you just got to spend though if you want to compete, for example there is no possible way to make our strikers better, we can't fix them as if they are robot, we can't make them younger in case of Torres and Eto'o. While our young strikers are not good enough, do we really want Lukaku and Feruz to lead the line against Barca...when they are even struggling against Swansea.

The thing here is we got 2 types of people, one is definitely against spending more and one is for spending more, it is all about expectations really. Do we all want us to win the CL,BPL title soon or at least compete very well in them? If yes then we need to spend more. But if we could accept not getting any trophy(Roman won't) and not spend more then we can develop the team with young players. The people that say we shouldn't spend more, what else can we do to become better? Buying better players obviously Other might say we should integrate young players into the team, but do you really think we can beat top class teams with the like of Lukaku leading the line? He hasn't played well for like 3 weeks now and at a club like Chelsea that is not good enough, if he was here now he would have been on the bench for his performances. So in the end, it all boil down to what you want us to achieve. If you are happy with consistent top 4, good run at FA Cup, Capital one cup and just QF of CL at best then of course we don't need to spend more, but if you all want more(which I hope you all do) then really we just have to spend. No team will sustain a continuous challenge at the top with just your own players, every top team do. Even Barcelona, who got one of the best academy in football history got to buy top class players summer after summer, and even then they can't retain success continuously. Even Bayern had to sign Martinez for £40m despite reaching 2 CL finals in 3 seasons. Madrid spend millions after millions. While teams like Dortmund now found out that you just can't sustain a continuous challenge without spending bug, they just lost like their 5th home game this season at the weekend and will probably got knock out of CL soon.

I doubt much have changed unless Roman's expectations have lowered. Remember this is the guy that sacked King Carlo, RDM after guiding us to one of greatest season in history. The day his expectations lowered is probably also the day he stopped buying top players for us, but then again that is gonna soon happen with FFP. I think he will allow Jose to be trophy less this season, but it will be the only one for the rest of the contract.

Overall he made a massive mistake signing for Chelsea, classic example of player signing for a club too big for his size. I bet if he could go back time he would have never signed for us. This is the problem with modern day young talented players, most of them never really make it big at a big club despite their potential. This will and have applied to: Piazon, Ferus, Kalas, PVA, Bertrands at Chelsea. The only player who will make it here definitely is Courtois but that is because he is just way too good, already top 10 GK in the world at such a young age, the other might be Lukaku but he won't if we sign a new ST, the same reason why the lot I mentioned won't make it here. These players would have better snubbed Chelsea to sign for clubs like Southampton where they will get a lot of playing time to develop themselves and be ready to join a big club like Chelsea when they reach that level. That is why our dream of self sustaining future with talented youngsters will never work, not with the expectations that we/Roman have. You can't keep on competing at the top with youngsters while other have world class players unless your starting 11 is something like: Courtois, Dave, Varane, Mangala, Digne, Gotze, Matuidi, Pogba, Hazard, Oscar, Neymar. The only way it works is if every single top players become too expensive to buy even for teams like us, which will never happen. Because when we need a ST for example like we do now, we are not gonna turn to youngsters like Lukaku but rather we gonna buy expensive players soon(Falcao,Costa and so on) in order to achieve IMMEDIATE SUCCESS like CL, league title. This is why no matter how good our academy gets, the days of Terry making it here is pretty much over unless we got the next Rooney in our academy, someone who will score a hat trick in his CL debut.

He will, as long as he keeps on winning at least 1 trophy each year and eventually we play good football. But a trophy less season and we all know what is going to happen.
