Ray then better known as Butch was one of the best players to come through from a junior at Chelsea . Sadly he had to move to Man Utd to help solve our financial crisis at that time. While with us he became our youngest ever captain and far from the midfielder who was called disparingly "The Crab", he was an attacking midfielder in the Lampard role with a blistering shot . As a manager he failed quite badly and on his return to Chelsea as Assistant Manager I must confess I was far from impressed by the appointment .I saw this merely as a PR exercise .Now however I think it was an inspired choice . Under Scolari , Grant ,Gus and Carlo ,he has I think done an excellent job . While unsure just how much impact he has a coach, he seems to have proven himself an excellent assistant to our foreign managers .Obviously his experiences in Italy helps with language problems and also in dealing with our multi-national squad . The fact that he is universally popular (exception Wenger) also helps greatly with our image .. THANKS BUTCH RAY
