  1. And yet you couldn't. Tell you what, until you do how about you don't talk to me until you do. It shouldn't be hard since I doubt we have much common ground what with me wanting my team to win and for the fans who actually support the team to be rewarded for paying their hard earned money to travel to third-world towns. :tophat:
  2. 'The same group of amazing players that have won it' There are plenty of players who have a World Cup winners' medal who simply aren't that great. The standard of football in the Champions League is now higher than the World Cup in my opinion, and I think Messi might actually be the best player in the best football team of all time. Now I don't know that for sure as I wasn't alive to see players like Pele in the flesh which is why arguments about who's the greatest are pretty tough to resolve. I just think we need to recognise the criteria has probably changed in the last 50 years.
  3. He's got pace, power and he's a little fighter. Plus he's got a bit of swagger about him which makes me think he'd handle himself just fine.
  4. I disagree. The World Cup simply isn't the premier competition in football anymore.
  5. Firstly, you didn't post the original sources for the comments be they the person who asked the question or the publication they worked for. You also couldn't post the exact date they were made. Now I'm not saying they're fabrications, but simply that after doing a quick google search they didn't appear before 2011. And I don't want a medal for going to Leeds - that's not why I support this club. You're just pissed because I pointed out that you and a few other fans seemed to revel in a potential loss to one of our most hated rivals. Oh, and I can actually manage to post a source for that if you want. :tophat:
  6. I didn't know there was anything to figure out, so I'm going to take a wild guess that you're wrong in the assumptions you've made.
  7. So let's accept this notion that Falcao can't do link-up play and one-twos and whatnot as good as what Lewnaodwski does......is that a result of limited skill to pass the ball back to a player or the way in which their respective managers use them? Or is it simply a faulty premise?
  8. With all due respect to Patrick Bamford, he ain't Islam Feruz. They're very different players, with very different levels of talent. Also, Sterling is not a huge amount better than Feruz at the same age. Liverpool have the luxury to chuck players in because they have such low expectations. It's hard for us to do the same. Yes there's an argument to take it slowly and ease players into the first-team via League 2 or the Championship, but sometimes you can throw a player into the first team and they swim. Let's be honest, our softly, softly approach to youth team progression hasn't exactly had amazing results has it? But I'd be interested to see what you think Feruz lacks.
  9. What is the argument for taking time with him? We've done that with other youngsters and it's really not done a lot. And Sterling is less than a year older and never went on loan.
  10. If he had two more assists this season, would that help convince you?
  11. 'What does he contribute besides scoring goals?' might be one of the best things I've read on here. I hear Falcao can crochet and has a casual interest in hairdressing. That would help the squad. Right now, Falcao is probably the best in the world at what he does. He does something we need. Now there are virtues to having Lewandowski over him, such as his age and the fact that he plays in a similar style to us, although there are rather stark stylistic differences. But let's not focus on superficial things like their contribution to the team which is partly down to the role they're asked to play and also doesn't seem to be supported by anything beyond your opinion. We'd be lucky to pick up either player, and based on what I've seen they're both better options than Cavani but you've not presented a single argument with facts that supports the theory that Lewandowski would be a better option for our team.
  12. Again, this is a simplistic way of looking at the contribution of players but fine....let's accept that Lewandowski's 'ability to help the team' (which has enabled him to get a massive THREE assists to Falcao's pitiful ONE) makes him 'an all-rounder'...... Ugh.... Look, it's not just about passing - It's about tying players up. You don't just contribute as a striker by winning headers or dropping off the front line (all of which I'm sure Falcao can do because I've seen him do it). You also contribute by taking a defender away from an attacking midfielder by making off the ball runs which a defender has to defend. That creates space for the likes of Mata or Hazard which is just as important as winning a knock-down for them to run onto. Ultimately it comes down to want your team to do.
  13. Sometimes it's best to go with specialists in one area rather than go for people who can do multiple things. You can have the best Plan A that you can and then develop a Plan B (such as going with Lukaku). I also think it's tremendously myopic to view players in such limiting ways - Falcao is a poacher but he's also able to work in the build-up play too.
  14. I agree on the differences but I just see our team's needs differently. I think we need a poacher who creates space for the likes of Mata and Hazard rather than someone who does quite so much work outside the box.
  15. I don't pretend to know outcomes of transfers. All I can go on is a best guess based on the info available.
  16. Didn't Corinthians' keeper get MOTM in that game? On another day we win that but we just didn't have luck on our side. If it was an important trophy I'd probably be a bit more pissed but as long as the improvement continues it was just a stepping stone to get back in the title race (hopefully).
  17. I know exactly how Dortmund play and I'm a big fan of what Klopp has done there. My point is that no-one knows exactly how good a player will turn out to be and alluding to a 'hive mind' sensibility is a little unfair. The problem we have is that we don't know what football we'll be playing in 6 months time so it's hard to adjudicate quite how well a player will fit in long-term. My personal preference is Falcao but that doesn't mean I don't like Lewandowski or Cavani as individuals. I just look at what we're trying to do right now and what it looks like we want to do further down the road and come to a conclusion.
  18. Rafa has instituted a different way of playing since he arrived - the CWC matches were important in allowing us time to do that. We weren't clinical enough but honestly it's not something that has played on my mind that much. The improvement since has been far more important.
  19. I loved the idea of BPS. It could've been a truly iconic location for a new ground but unfortunately it's BPS - if anything ever gets built there I'll be surprised. Earls Court is a nice back-up so long as we don't go the Arsenal route of building a boring, cookie-cutter route.
  20. Thank god for that. Most of the time it's really hard to know for certain if a transfer will work out but now someone who lived in Dortmund for 8 years has said this one will definitely work out (that's 6 more than Lewandoski has so it's got to be right). It's just so annoying that nobody at the club spoke to people who lived in Liverpool when they signed Torres.
  21. We created more chances than them and probably should've scored but they clearly prepared for it better as they were out there longer. Ultimately they were a valuable couple of games to work on the team and get them playing a new way. Since then we've improved but it's too early to judge, but let's not go overboard on what is essentially a Mickey Mouse cup.
  22. I personally think Benitez used the CWC to tune the players up and get them used to playing a different style of football. It's too early to tell if that will pay off in the long run but we saw massive improvements in the Villa and Norwich games. If we do continue to improve then those games in Japan played their role. It would've been nice to win but I haven't shed a single tear about losing to Corinthians and I haven't heard much mention of it either. If I'm honest, the Leeds game meant more to me.
