Are you from Wallonia or Flanders (just curiosity)? We've got high pings in Brazil mostly because our internet sucks. And it has improved. I used to play World of Warcraft, back then I used to get like 190-250 ping but I knew some aussie ppl who complained about playing with 500-600ish ping. I think mostly because servers are usually hosted very far from AUS, like in Europe or US. P.S: I have a feeling that big ping might have some other meaning, hahaha.

Doesn't it feel a bit isolated from the rest of the world? I mean, it's a country with western culture in a huge island on the edge of the eastern part of the world. And I've heard australians get those unbelievably high pings in online games.
