Olympique de Marseille have reportedly rejected the chance to take Chelsea forward Andriy Shevchenko to the south of France next season and the Blues are now ready to offer the Ukrainian veteran to Olympique Lyonnais and Monaco, according to a report in Aujourd’hui Sport. The 32-year-old goal-getter spent last season on loan at Milan after enduring a difficult two-years at Stamford Bridge, where he is still contracted. The Rossoneri aren’t expected to gamble on signing ‘Sheva’ on a permanent basis as he made very little impression at all last season. Two mediocre campaigns in the Premier League mean that Chelsea are trying to find a new home for the former Dynamo Kyiv man as a matter of urgency. OM have already turned down the chance to take the 2004 Ballon d’Or winner to the Stade Velodrome and the report from France suggests Chelsea will now offer the ageing forward to Lyon and Monaco. OL, though, have their eyes on different targets. As well as Porto’s Lisandro Lopez, general manager Claude Puel is reputedly interested in a move for Valencia’s Nikola Zigic, a giant of a centre forward, who netted 13 times on loan at Racing Santander last term. It is believed that the Spanish outfit, who are in well publicised financial difficulties, are seeking €10 million for the 6ft 8in striker. Lyon, it seems, will not gamble on Shevchenko, however, Monaco could be tempted into a move. Lacking a world-renowned forward for several years, les Monegasques are attempting to rebuild a formidable squad, the like of which carried them to the Champions League final of 2004. Shevchenko’s wage demands may simply prove too much for the Mediterranean coast club, who have boasted forwards the calibre of Juergen Klinsmann, Christian Vieri, Javier Saviola, Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet and Fernando Morientes in the past.

Barcelona have confirmed they have opened talks with Valencia over a move for Spain striker David Villa. Chelsea and Real Madrid have also shown interest in the 27-year-old and it had been thought that he was set for a move to the Bernabeu. However, amid talk of a €35 million (£29.7m) bid, Barca vice-president Rafael Yuste has now revealed that they are in negotiations over a potential switch. “The talks are open, absolutely,” he told the Tot Gira programme on Radio Catalunya. “Because of the success of our club, many players are interested in coming to Barcelona. This is good and I think people have to be aware of it.” Yuste also revealed that he expects goalkeeper Victor Valdes to remain at Camp Nou. Valdes is out of contract in 2010 and there have been reports that Manchester United are considering an approach, but Yuste feels he will stay. “He is very happy at Barca, like everyone else on the payroll, so I cannot imagine Victor Valdes playing for a team other than Barca and I hope he continues at Barca,” he said.

Real Madrid aren’t the only ones interested in Douglas Maicon, as Manchester City and Chelsea also prepare bids for the Inter star. Right-back Maicon has said he is upset with his treatment at San Siro and felt “unappreciated” by the club. While up until now Real have been the most likely option, others have now opened up, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. Inter must now weigh up three proposals to release their Brazilian defender. Real Madrid have offered Wesley Sneijder plus £17m cash, a deal that interests President Massimo Moratti, who admires the Dutch international. Manchester City know that Inter are considering a bid for Elano, so would put the midfielder on the plate alongside £7m. Chelsea could well have the upper hand, though, as they can provide one of Jose Mourinho’s old Porto favourites as part of the deal – Deco or Ricardo Carvalho.

Internazionale manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he would be interested in bringing Chelsea midfielder Souza Deco to the San Siro. The Portugal international admitted earlier in the week that he was hoping to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after enduring a poor season in England. Mourinho has now added fuel to the speculation by speaking of his desire to be reunited with Deco, who he worked with at FC Porto. The former Chelsea boss told Lusa:"I would be very satisfied to work with Deco again. I remember the good moments we had together, the good work we did and the victories we obtained. "I helped Deco grow, but it was with players like him that I became the coach I am now. "If it is possible for him to come to Inter and for us to work together again it would be something wonderful for both of us." Meanwhile, Blues defender Ricardo Carvalho would also be interested in moving to Inter, saying:"I would love to be coached under Mourinho again. "The majority of trophies I have won were with Mourinho. At Chelsea there is a new cycle happening so we will see what happens."
