  17. CHELSEA VS NEWCASTLE - 2 MAY 2012 - STAMFORD BRIDGE The business end of the season is in full swing now as Newcastle visit Stamford Bridge tonight hoping to maintain their challenge for 4th spot in the Premier League. The two sides are separated by just one point and a win for either side would all but end the other team's hopes of finishing in the top 4 season. It's perform or perish time now. Chelsea have the luxury of having 2 bites at the cherry with the Champions League final coming up later on this month but manager Roberto di Matteo knows that failing to finish in the top 4 this season will simply amplify the pressure on us to win the UCL final. Back in December, goals from Didier Drogba, Daniel Sturridge and Salomon Kalou ensured a 3-0 win but the scoreline was slightly flattering for Chelsea. Last year though, the two sides played out a 2-2 draw with Steven Taylor equalising in stoppage time after Alex and Ivanovic had given Chelsea the lead twice. Chelsea's season just keeps getting better. 2 cup finals and an enthralling finale to the race to finish in the top 4 of the Premier League has gotten the fans buzzing. Roberto di Matteo seems to be working wonders and has now established himself as a firm favorite to land the permanent manager job. But he wouldn't be worrying about that now with the game against Newcastle being followed by 2 meetings with Liverpool - at Wembley and at Anfield - before finishing the league season at home to relegation-threatened Blackburn. Fernando "He scores when he wants" Torres comes into this game on the back of a brilliant hat-trick against QPR and he might get the nod tonight with Drogba being rested for Wembley. Another player who might just need a rest is Frank Lampard. He has played non-stop football under di Matteo (apart from the Arsenal game). Branislav Ivanovic is set to return to the team after completing a 3 match ban with Paulo Fereira set to lose his place in the eleven. The biggest problem for di Matteo is who should he pick up front because he is spoilt for choice at the moment. Both Torres and Drogba have been in good form recently. Drogba scored in the semifinals vs Spurs and Barcelona while Torres got a hat-trick last time out - a stark contrast from earlier in the season Newcastle's top 4 push suffered a reality check in the weekend as Wigan Athletic continued their impressive form thrashing them 4-0. Chelsea old boy Franco di Santo, Victor Moses and Shaun Maloney doing the damage and Chelsea will take heart from the fact that the Newcastle defense looked pretty average at the DW Stadium. But at the same time, The Magpies were unlucky not to score as Papiss Demba Cisse went close on a number of occasions and with Cisse, Ben Arfa and Demba Ba upfront, Chelsea will have to stay compact defensively and press quickly to ensure they break down Newcastle's rapid attacks. Ben Arfa in particular should be clamped down as his pace and guile will cause our defense all sorts of problems. What the managers say Alan Pardew Roberto di Matteo Trivia - Ashley Cole is set to make his 250th start for Chelsea - Chelsea are unbeaten at home in 2012 - Newcastle have kept 14 cleansheets in the league this season. Only the Manchester clubs have had more. - Newcastle's last 14 goals have been scored by 3 scorers - Cisse (9) Ben Arfa (3) and Cabaye (2) Form Guide Chelsea WWDWW Newcastle - LWWWW Players to watch Chelsea - Fernando Torres comes into this game in good touch after the hat-trick vs QPR and will be up against a Newcastle defence shell-shocked by Wigan at the DW. Any takers on another Torres treble? Newcastle - Hatem Ben Arfa has been a revelation in the last weeks scoring some truly fantastic goals (watch his goal vs Blackburn) and also setting up Papiss Cisse on occasion. He needs to be shut out from Chelsea's point of view

  21. yeah. i remember the norwich game at home. no clear cut chances although it was under avb all the games they have played together upfront under rdm, torres has been out wide so
  22. yeah. but at the same time, our defense vs demba ba and papiss demba cisse. worrying
