  1. Fans want youth integration but no one is expecting or demanding the manager to throw 11 players in. At the moment, there's James, Mount, CHO and maybe Abraham as well as Tomori. Hardly tons. Getting result is important but this coming season is also about laying the foundation, rebuilding the squad for years to come. Trudging along with the same set, over the hill players again isn't going to get us anywhere.
  2. True but if you take the interim managers out of the equation, the next one will be the 10th permanent manager.
  3. A youth player isn't going to be perfect from the get-go. Maybe people just aren't used to us playing young players, developing them because we always buy players to solve our problems. You gotta have the trust and faith that with playing time, they will improve and get better. If not, then how will you know when will they be ready? To use an example, when Sterling first broke through, he was only 18 years old. He wasn't perfect to begin with but the talent was there (is still there) and he was trusted to play in the first team (played 1,747 PL minutes in 2012/13, when he first broke through at Liverpool and he's played at least 2500 minutes in 4 of the 6 following seasons) and look where he is now. And another thing with using youth players is stop ourselves from buying duds like Drinkwater, Zappacosta etc. Better off just using players from the academy and developing them than spending 30-40 million on players who aren't good and aren't going to contribute anything at all!
  4. Telegraph reported we're waiting for Roman to give the green light. The Times said Lampard has agreed to take over. Guardian stated we'll now move to get Lampard. Take your pick...
  5. Someone must have gotten too excited about posting it.
  6. According to Duncan Castles, Lampard has agreed to take the job after receiving reassurances from Roman... https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/roman-abramovich-makes-phone-plea-to-lampard-to-take-chelsea-job-8tps6ml06
  7. If Derby had wanted to extend Lampard's contract, why wait till now? Why wait till when we are clearly going after him?
  8. Thought I'm usually the one who's all doom and gloom here but feels like others have taken it up a notch. Rather than turning this thread - and Sarri's - into 'Lampard will fail because of bla bla bla vs Lampard will succeed because of bla bla bla', how about we see what will happen and pass judgment when things have actually happened? We might fail under Lampard or we might even do well under him...who knows?! Going over the same debate every week is as dull and predictable as Sarriball last season.
  9. It may be one of the reasons but it's certainly not the deciding reason. Doubt Conte would have been sacked if he hadn't "done so" himself and with Mourinho, there was no other choice when you look at the way he was dragging us down.
  10. Not that I'm optimistic myself but not sure why everyone is all doom and gloom over the top 4 right now. The season hasn't even started and we don't even know what's going to happen. We don't even know if Arsenal, United are going to improve significantly for next season. Arsenal don't seem capable of attracting top players and Lacazette/Aubameyang can only take them so far while United look like they might take the youth route under Solskjaer judging by stories of his transfer targets.
  11. C'mon now, let's not rewrite history and and say the failure to get top 4 was the reason they got fired. Mourinho created a ridiculous toxic atmosphere in 2015/16 (even took us to near the relegation zone!) and so did Conte to a lesser extent in 2017/18 (he practically "sacked" himself after December 2017). Results weren't great but they forged an environment that was difficult to work in, play with. How could we have continued with them?
  12. This. If we don't qualify for the Champions League but show progress with the playing style, playing squad etc, I doubt the board will just sack Lampard and start over again. Like you alluded to, they might not be the brightest of people but even they can't be that dumb to turn this job into 'get Champions League or you're fired' thing. No one is going to take up the job in the future if we go down that road.
  13. Stabilized the club? No drama like Mourinho/Conte? That's kinda ironic considering we just went through another roller-coaster of a season. As Mana said above, Sarri overreacted - on his part - in the League Cup final and the day before the Europa League final. And on top of that, this was the same fella who blamed the players for the defeats we suffered - e.g the players' mentality is bad, Kante didn't follow instructions - remember that? Sound familiar? He rarely took responsibility for the defeats and put the blame on others, much like Mourinho and to an extent Conte. Only difference is he said it in a less aggressive manner than Mourinho/Conte and hence why no said anything.
  14. Intrigue to see what he can do when not constricted to Sarri's football.

  16. TBF, that Simon Johnson has a tendency to stir ****. Best to just ignore him...
