You would hope that there is improvement to this ASAP. Brendan Rodgers used to be crap with defences at Liverpool but is now suddenly managing the side with the best defence in the league!

Is Kovacic not the flavor of the month? Were people even suggesting him a month or two ago? Jorginho as captain is kinda funny when he's contributing to our defensive flaws with his poor defensive game in midfield.

There is no substance to that report, is it? All it basically says is Azpi may look to leave if he wants to play week in week out, when James becomes the first choice RB. Nothing on that he will actually do it and heck, Azpi may even be happy to play back-up going forward.

Lampard also said James was training and playing well and hence, he decided to reward him with a start. Why has that been left out? Is the manager explaining the decision to a player wrong? It's part of man-management. I get that you're unhappy with Azpi's form/performances but you using the captain stick to "beat" him at every opportunity is getting ridiculous. And by the way, Lampard also benched Azpi for the West Ham game recently and went with James and Emerson... Do people only preach meritocracy when it suits them and toss it out when it doesn't? I don't necessarily disagree with you there but Lampard is clearly seeing things from Emerson he doesn't like - be it in games, training or whatever. Emerson better buck up his ideas if he wants to be playing in the XI. Sancho is world class? No. He has the potential to be world class. Chilwell would be a little bit of improvement? If people are okay with spending over 100 million for Sancho, then not sure why not for Chilwell, who will only be 23 years old soon? Can set us up for the next 7-8 years.

It's not possible to be revamping the entire squad in one window. As it stands, we're already looking to improve CB, LB, RW and ST. We may even need to buy 2 players for each of the last 2 positions. They're already gonna cost a lot. And god knows what's gonna happen with Kepa. If his form continues to be inconsistent, then we're also looking at a potential replacement. Even if not, we also need to replace Caballero. The only solid rumors of late are that we're looking to sign a LB, ST, RW and likely a CB. Nothing about RB.

I don't know about the coaches but it feels like some are using the 'young squad', 'inexperienced squad' etc factors as excuse for the shambles because it's a joke how we keep on making the same kind of errors almost every game! Carlos Queiroz coached the defence, not attack.

If we sell Azpi this summer, then who is the backup? Zappacosta!? I'm all for Azpi to be benched but there's only so many players we can sell and buy in the summer. It's certainly not possible to revamp the squad entirely in one transfer window. Sort out the issue at LB and I'm sure Azpi will be 2nd choice to James and be used occasionally.

Kovacic as the captain? Do people just go with the flavor of the month when it comes to picking the captain? I know modern footballers are now different from the previous decade but just listen to what Mourinho said here on 'Captains vs Leaders'. Kovacic most certainly doesn't come close to that.

Speaking of Napoli, it's a shame that Mertens is already over 30 years old. Was just thinking the other day that he would be good signing...until I double checked his age.

The captain part is just your opinion. Lampard has played James at RB and Emerson/Alonso at LB and left Azpi on the bench before. Was anything said then? But unfortunately, Emerson/Alonso has proven to be unreliable, thus forcing Lampard's hands. If one of those 2 has been more reliable, I'm sure Lampard wouldn't be playing Azpi at LB or at all. As for the price for Chilwell, said it previously, 50-100 million is the new 30-50 million. It's the norm these days to be paying that kind of money.

Think we might sign a LB in January. Lampard seems desperate for one. Doesn't trust Alonso and Emerson, forced to play Azpi in that position. Go put 80-90 million on the table for Chilwell and see what Leicester say!

United are in decent position and shouldn't be ruled out just yet - they're only 5 points behind us and 1 ahead of Spurs! If they figure out how to beat the lesser teams consistently, then we've got problems!

Wonder if Lampard has given the players the hairdryer treatment because they deserved some bollocking for the recent defensive farce!
