Inclined to agree with what you said and while it's excusable to a certain extent when players don't give their all in friendly games, if Hazard really is to become a top player, he shouldn't/can't be choosing the moments or games to turn up as he see fit. Need to be more committed if anything.

That's somewhat an exaggeration. This was a guy who the club rejected because they thought he was too small and am pretty sure that many would have know him beforehand and much more about Luis. One could argue at least he has shown his qualities and it's evident. Not too sure about Luis..

The thing with Felipe Luis is that he is hardly a top player in general. People are only raving about him because he came off a good season at Atletico Madrid. If this move was to happen last year, there would have been a furore. In this case, it feels like we are buying a player based on form rather than the player himself being actually good and have form to back it up.

Getting one would improve us in that area but just one alone won't put us alongside the best like you're making it out.

Obviously not. Don't get me wrong. That's what I implied in the last post that the 5 you mentioned or hypothetically, the one I stated is not good enough. Regarding Tiago, if we are going to get him, we would be better off just keeping Lampard. Don't get the logic of signing Tiago again. Not more THAN 2 CMS but still (need) 2 CMs. Let's just say we get this 'Player X' who is world class. Then only he and Matic probably falls into that category. The rest aren't. Ramires is a decent player to have but we've already seen how awful he can be and if that happens again next season, then it's like having 1 player less. Even at his best, he is only a good player at best. Van Ginkel is still young and developing. The remaining ones, be it Lampard/Tiago/Mikel would basically be just squad players and not exactly adding genuine quality into the team. Having only 2 world class CMs out of the 5 in the team won't immediately get us right up there with the best even if it will be an improvement from last season. If something silly happens to 1 of those 2, we're back to having a broken pivot again. Still need at least 1 more, if not 2. What made us strong in midfield under Ancelotti and the managers before that is we had options, quality players to come in and still do a job without feeling that huge gap in quality, the difference between first choice and squad players.

For that to happen, think we need more than just 1 world class player. One alone would not cut it. Need at least 1-2 more as additional (and quality) options.
