  1. he has done nothing out wide at Chelsea to prove that he deserves to be a lone striker. ------ Despite being our second top scorer last season? Sturridge never said he wasn't happy playing on the wing, it's something people have made up and gradually grown on to. If you want to look at the original quote: Moaning playing for chelsea on the wing, ------- When talking about his form and the way he has been playing in recent weeks, Sturridge is quoted to have said: "That's the position I will always pick myself, centre-forward. But whatever position the manager picks me in I'm happy and right now, for the team, I'm in the wide position. "I will always give 100 per cent and work as hard as I can to get the success we all want." If you remember, at the time, 2010, Anelka and Drogba were rubbish. Sturridge was impressing in the very limited outings he got - many Chelsea fans were asking for him to be starting. Even at this point he was playing some reserve football when he was clearly too good for this, scoring 5 goals in one game, and there's a video of him scoring 3 goals in a training match - but he never got a chance. He was well within his rights to ask why he wasn't getting more chances, which probably led to his loan to Bolton, where he promptly did better than anything Torres or Anelka had shown at CFC that season. I'm sure Lukaku probably did the same when he was playing reserves and the CF's were not doing well - he even came out to the media and was pretty malicious about that. People are being far to naive to think this move is simply about whether Sturridge starts at CF or not. Far too trivial to say that. If he was so demanding about CF - why is he going to a club where he's starting on the wing? Why did he play and was happy playing wing for AVB? All part of this alias people have created for him.
  2. You can maybe add 2-3 more apps for very early appearances as CF for Chelsea in his first season, think he started a couple in the Carling Cup.
  3. You can literally count the amount of times Sturridge has played lone striker by minutes. At the Olympics - 3 starts, 2 goals For Chelsea - 195 minutes(in 3 apps), 1 goal (apparently that if a sufficient range to judge someone's ability) Playing as a striker, though not necessarily lone, for Chelsea and Bolton - 17 appearances, 15 goals. So doing goals to appearances as any type of striker, 23 appearances, 18 goals. Not good enough, of course.
  4. Here come the excuses that belittle any achievement Sturridge has done. Why can people not admit that he was good? Does this mean whatever good Mata did last season is negligible? Is it really that hard to give Sturridge credit that you have to come up with all these excuses. Some said he was only on form for 6 months - he was on form for 12. 3rd highest English scorer in 2012. Of course he wouldn't displace Drogba and Anelka when he was starting on the right, and this season, people don't seem to understand he was injured, and then act as if it's somehow his fault.
  5. Sturridge is young. I have very little doubt that at one point in the future he'll be good enough for us. Hell, for the whole of 2011, he was good enough for us.
  6. He scored 3 goals from January to May, in the calendar year of 2011, he was great. I think he'll play right-wing for Liverpool. Said it before, but Sturridge-Suarez-Sterling is a good front three.
  7. What was Drogba, Ian Wright, and Klose doing at 19? What Lukaku is doing is great for his age, but Sturridge at this time last season was actually starting week in week out, at a better team, with more goals, while Lukaku was in the reserves. This season he's been injured - how could you compare?
  8. Can anyone actually point to something Sturridge has done off pitch that highlights his "attitude problem?" People say it but I never see anything backing it up.
  9. Because he was terrible..paticularly second half.
  10. Lol, are people so tired of Torres now there hasn't been the usual backlog of how bad he was?
  11. Falcao, Sturridge, Lukaku just makes so much more sense then Falcao, Torres/new striker, and Lukaku. Sturridge is not on 170k a week and is a good player(clubs will go for him) so unfortunately (for me) the easiest one to get rid of. Also unlucky with injuries. If it weren't for injuries I'd bet he'd be starting, scoring, maybe frustrating, but all in all better then Torres.
  12. Sturridge-Suarez-Sterling will be a very good front three. We are selling the wrong striker as well. People saying Sturridge isn't good enough to start for us at CF - he was more than good enough for Bolton, good enough for Great Britain there, and even then he hasn't been given a fair chance really for Chelsea yet after all this time. People mention how he tailed off last season, Romeu did the same but doesn't nearly come to the same amount of criticism for it by the typical Sturridge hater. His so called attitude is hyped up beyond comparison. People act as if he has a major physiological problem, like Balotelli. Sturridge is obviously a self-confident player. He believes in himself. This is apparently seen as a positive when Torres does it (how often have people praised Torres for 'at least' shooting first time), but when Sturridge does it, it's negative. Off the pitch while he was injured the first time this season he was promoting Meningitis charities. When he recovered from meningitis to go to the Olympics, he thanked the doctors not once, but twice for allowing him the oppurtinity to play for GB (unlike Bale who couldn't even be bothered). He has shown gratitude on more than one occasion for the belief that Coyle and AVB put in him, which he justified. There was a game last season where Torres was his usual terrible self - Sturridge post match interview and he was saying how Torres was one of our best players that match. Maybe people missed it as Sturridge only cares for himself. How people can judge a personality based on pitch performance is beyond me. Otherwise would Tevez and Bellamy be hard working grafters who never give up? This may be how they play football, but this only goes so far. People let this myopia about his head get in the way of the fact he is actually quite a good player. For a greedy player who never passes, he got 7 assists last season. Does anyone remember his pass for Drogba's goal against Leverkusen? I doubt it as it was Sturridge doing something good (people only talk about the negatives to his game seemingly). He was also the one that went outside and crossed for our first penalty in that United game. Now he made a mistake later in that game. Which is the one remembered more? The mistake because some people just want to criticise Sturridge. Going back to this line I've read over the past few pages 'Sturridge isn't good enough to start anyway so it's ok', who is saying he should be our starter long term? As that would be myopic on my sense. All people have said is that they want him started over Torres which is fair enough. Torres is crap and Sturridge isn't so it is logical. But realistically, Sturridge could simply be a good backup for us. He would press for a starting place as he improved. He's versatile. Homegrown. If his ego was such a problem it would be a negative impact in the dressing room when it clearly isn't. If you want to look at this Chelsea squad for egos, Lampard and Torres stick above the rest. And really, I don't blame Sturridge for wanting to leave. He's got a goal every 180 minutes at Chelsea on average. This is even excluding his Bolton performances. This is not the same as a goal every 2 games, due to the amount of Sturridge subs that count as appearances. Remember under Carlo? 10/11, first half, Anelka was terrible, Sturridge was in the reserves scoring 5 goals a game and in training scoring hat tricks against the first team. Was never given a chance. He could have done a Lukaku and complained. He was well in his right. But he bided his time, waited till January, got his chances at Bolton. Sturridge has never complained about position or playing time contrary to popular belief. Like I said earlier he has only said that he sees himself as a CF, but enjoyed playing on the wing. Ivan sees himself as a CB, (according to his agent), Kalou saw himself as a CF as well, but it seem as something Sturridge can be held against for simply because it is Sturridge. Sturridge will do well at Liverpool - we'll regret this.
  13. Oh dear. Reading back from the Nords match there's so much, too much I could say to the fanboys who suddenly come out of recluse synonymous with when Torres comes out of his.
  14. Rooney plays where Mata plays and has been injured for a month, Aguero has been injured for a month, Balotelli doesn't start (sub appearances), Dzeko is a sub as well. Tevez and Giroud haven't had as much games. Do people not understand how they are not comparable. Love how all the fanboys came out when he was going through his usual run of 'form' against some pub teams and showed yesterday exactly why he's crap. The Falcao one really hasn't done well has it? How can one even compare Falcao to Torres? Ridiculous. An insult to Falcao.
  15. Look on BBC iPlayer at Football League highlights for the Watford match for the goal if you live in the UK. TheChelsNet loan report also had a link to his goal. It might just be the iPlayer link.
  16. De Bruyne 8/10 MOTM In the first half, clearly the best man on the pitch, and he built on this after the restart. Was at the heart of the crucial equalizer. From goal.com/de
  17. Chalobah is 18, not 16 (as of the 12th) and is far more first team ready than Piazon. And Piazon isn't too good for the U21s. Every team will have a best player and a worst player, it doesn't mean they're 'too good'. Billy Clifford for example is just as important to the U21s.
